A Wee Bit about Me
I wasn't discipled as a young Christian. I attended church regularly for a time, then intermittently. As is too often the case, there were no older women discipling younger women, and the teachings leaned heavily in the direction of saving lost souls and sparsely in the direction of discipling saints, God's children.
Jesus walked with me for many years, and eventually I began to grow. "For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which [be] the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk [is] unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, [even] those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil." (Hebrews 12:12-14) The Lord told me to take great care to rely upon the Holy Spirit to guide me into truth and understanding. No, it wasn't an audible voice emanating from the proximity of the ceiling fan. In fact, I'd heard a few voices from pulpits and elsewhere which had served to begin turning me more often toward the practice of the noble Bereans who "received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so". I was hearing and witnessing some things which didn't seem to align with what the Word of God says. It just seemed as if many things were wrong, and right at the top of the list of "Wrong Things"...sat I.
I welcome the Lord's wake-up calls, but my, they're sometimes so painful and humbling. I'm always grateful for the lessons He teaches just between Him and me, sparing me a public red face here and there. But I also embrace the ones which involve a host of other people... O Lord! Why did I do that in front of so many people!? And so loudly...and for so long!?
"This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief." I Timothy 1:15
We need each other. We need instruction and we need correction. If either or both come in love and supported by Scripture (the whole of Scripture--not just those verses which can be isolated and set forth to support a faulty pet belief), we hone one another and become more like Jesus. "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend." Proverbs 27:17
God has been good to me. God is good. Without Him there isn't any good thing in me. "I am crucified with Christ: neverthless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." (Galatians 2:20) If any good thing is seen in me, it's the work of the Holy Spirit who lives in me. If I display unlovely characteristics, that's the work of my flesh. My weaknesses, my failings, my sins are many. I am weak, but He is strong.
My greatest desire is that women will see Jesus--not me--in the other pages of my website; that someone or several someones will be encouraged to walk intimately with the Lord, to learn His ways, to receive the blessings of responding to God's love. "That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ." Ephesians 4:14,15
