Woo's Wonder World of Pooh Information on Gif Optimization This is a small page on the optimization of gifs and the neatness and presentation of graphics. I take a great deal of time in making sure that the graphics that I have on site are neat and presentable for all. I hate the look of grainy and sloppy gifs - transparent ones in particular. If you have a graphics program, there is really no excuse for placing untidy graphics on site. There is one included in your computer that you can utilize at any time and that is Microsoft(c) Paint. It does not have all the bells and extras, but it does enable you to tidy up a graphic - pixel by pixel - which is the case with any graphic program that you have. There is no quick or easy way for you to do this. Time and patience are the key, but the results speak for themselves. If you are presenting graphics (transparent gifs) to the public, then take the time and effort to give them excellent quality. I have several programs that I use - Microsoft(c) Paint is my favorite for working with the pixel issue, and the ability to magnify and use the pencil, eraser etc., is easier (my opinion only) I also have PSP 6 and 7, and 20/20 (light) These are all great for doing various other enhancements to your graphic. There is no point in enhancing ect., if you have not made your graphic neat to start with. Once I have worked on the graphic, I then optimize for quick download on site. This is important. The graphic pages that I do have are ALL optimized - I use Spinwave GIF Cruncher (also JPEG), they are a free resource for the first couple of graphics - you do have to be a member to use further services,. I have optimized a graphic below to show you the colors, byte size and clarity. I have NOT tidied the graphic to show that this is how a site that offers graphics had it for presentation. |

Obviously you would choose the one that is a good clear color and near the original, looking for smaller size - for faster download. |

Here I have started to tidy the graphic, as you can see the left side looks so much nicer. |

Here is the finished article - clean and crisp Color 32 - bytes 7487 - you will note the byte size is smaller (compared to the one above for the same color etc.,)- this is because it has been tidied and does not have excess pixels. |
Great for Optimizing graphics - gif or jpeg |
GifBot(tm) also another wonderful resource for optimizing graphics. Both these are free for online . |
