Joseph Fiennes was born in Salisbury, Wiltshire in England on May 27th 1970. Joseph's full name is Joseph Alberic Fiennes and he belongs to a big family of 7 children: his twin brother, Jacob who is a gameskeeper; Ralph who is a famous actor (he has been in such films as 'Schindler's list' and 'The English Patient'; Sophie who works in visual arts and is an actress; Magnus is a composer, musician and performer; Martha is a director; Michael (who is the Fiennes's foster child) is now an archaeologist.
Joseph's mother, was the family's inspiration. Jini was a novelist and painter who died in 1993 and his father, Mark is a photographer. The family are related to the famous explorer, Ranulph who walked across Antartica at the age of 50. Joseph's grandfather is industralist Sir Maurice Fiennes who was chairman of Sheffield company Davy-Ashmore in England.
Although Joseph was born in England he grew up in West Cork, Ireland. At the age of 16 Joseph left school to take up a more artistic role and joined an art school. A year later Joseph helped backstage while his brother, Ralph was out front acting. He later left art school and joined the Young Vic Youth Theatre which lead on to him training for 3 years at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Joseph got his first big break in the West End in The Woman in Black followed by a Month In The Country. He then joined the Royal Shakespeare Company for two seasons and performed in Dennis Potter's Son of Man, Les Enfants Du Paradis, Troilus and Cressida and Peter Whelan's The Herbal Bed.
Joseph's first film was Stealing Beauty in 1996 where he played Christopher Fox. In 1998 Joseph starred in two Elizabethan period plays, Elizabeth where he played Robert Dudley and Shakespeare in Love where he played the leading role as William Shakespeare. He has also played Laurence in Martha Meet Frank, Daniel and Laurence also known as the Very thought of you.You may have seen him recently in Enemy at the gates where he stars alongside Bob Hoskins, Ed Harris and Jude Law. In production at the moment is Killing me Softly where he will play Adam Tallis alongside Natascha McElhone and Heather Graham at the moment they're still working out its certificate. Another of his future projects is Dust which we should see on our screens in early fall. Joseph Fiennes starred as Edward II in Christopher Marlowe's Edward II a play of sex, romance and violence at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield through March 2001.
Joseph's other talents apart from acting include- Modern Dancing, Jazz dancing, period dancing and Tenor. He is especially good at horse riding, archery, fencing, swimming and owns a driver's license and motorbike license. Joseph is 6ft and has hazel brown eyes and dark brown hair.
Joseph can do several accents including his native one, Dorset as well as: London, Wiltshire, Lancashire, Southern Irish, Suffolk, West Country, Standard American and Italian.
