On The Edge is a beautifully etched drama about a young man who conceals his adolescent pain behind a mordant sense of humor and is bent for self destruction. After a near-fatal accident in a stolen car, 19 year-old Jonathan Breech (Cillian Murphy) is given two choices - prison or a psychiatric hospital. He begrudgingly accepts the latter, though he makes it clear to his doctor (Stephen Rea) that he doesn't believe in therapy. He begins the road to realizatin when he befriends another patient, Toby (Jonathan Jackson), a sensitive, tormented young man who blames himself for his brother's accidental death. And slowly, he falls for the suicidal Rachel (Tricia Vessey) who is constantly testing him, unable to believe that anyone can love her. Through his growing affection for Rachel, Jonathan learns to accept his feelings and embrace his life.
