Governor Yusop Jikiri is an active member of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), serving the movement in various capacities, and eventually becoming the Chief of Staff. After the signing of the Peace Agreement between the Philippine Government and the MNLF, he was chosen to head the Office of the deputy Commander for Separate Units, Southern Command, Armed Forces of the Philippines.

He is an educator, having obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education.

Aware that Sulu is home to a proud people with long historical distinction, Governor Jikiri aims to transform his province into a bastion of progress and development. Specifically, he will expand opportunities in the areas of education, peace and order, aquatic agriculture, marine environment, infrastructure and housing, water programs, community development, social welfare and health program.
