Canadian Miniature Horse Association

  Information posted January 9th 2005

The Miniature Horse Association of Canada was Incorporated under
Animal Pedigree Act in April 24, 1992. It did well and thrived for a few years. Some of goals and objectives that were originally established for the Association were of a very narrow focus. When it was realized that some of these goals promised could not be achieved many of the groups founders and biggest supporters left the organization and eventually the Board of Directors disbanded. Even those strongly dedicated to keeping the MHAC going could not manage it without a complete Board of Directors.

In 1999 the CLRC supported website for the MHAC officially reported no representation available for the MHAC. From that date to present the MHAC's membership and registrations have been managed by the CLRC service with no input from an MHAC breed association.

I have been working to revive the MHAC and re-establish a working association for many years now. It is a difficult job trying to gather support for a registry that does little to represent the general interests of what is now a growing Miniature Horse industry in Canada. Many changes are necessary to make the MHAC into the type of registry we need.

Recently I have been receiving e-mails asking of the status of the MHAC, and the movement to replace it's disbanded Board of Directors. I am happy to say there has been a lot of interest in getting the MHAC back on track.

I have been in touch with the CLRC's General Manager Ron Black. We had a very productive discussion, and came up with a plan. It was suggested to me that I should compile a list of Canadian Miniature Horse enthusiasts, owners, and breeders who would be interested in reviving, revising and revitalizing the MHAC. There would be no financial commitment, just an expression of interest. I would need names, addresses, phone numbers, and it would be helpful to know the number of Miniature Horses (registered or grade) each person/family owned.

This list would be presented to David Trus, Animal Registration Officer. We need to explain that it is nearly impossible under the extenuating circumstances surrounding the defunct MHAC Board of Directors (BOD), and the difficulties some of the rules and by-laws present, for anyone trying to create a new interim BOD in this situation. I hope that consideration and leniency would be shown if we could effectively demonstrate how we could get the MHAC back on track with a strong representation of interested Canadians.

I have been appointed as the official MHAC liaison, and would appreciate any feedback anyone may have. If you are interested in adding your name to our list please reply to myself, by e-mail, phone, or regular post at the address below.

Here is the MHAC website address. It is a site, managed and hosted by the Canadian Livestock Records Corporation for the MHAC.

It is truly a great site! It is not that elaborate, but does feature a free studbook on-line!!! There are also links to registration statistics, forms on-line, a member directory, and the constitution and by-laws.

Once the MHAC is functioning again we will be able to do so much more and in conjunction with what is already set up by the CLRC we will have a lot to offer through our website!!

Check it out when you have a moment. I would encourage everyone to really take a good look at the MHAC Constitution and see what has been established. Take the time to consider what changes you would like to see and make some suggestions.

We are very excited to announce the creation of our own MHAC Yahoo Group. A Yahoo Group provides a single e-mail address that everyone can post and reply to. When you subscribe your address is added to the "group", any e-mail you send goes out to all subscribers through the group e-mail address. It is a fantastic way to get updates, exchange thoughts, support, and to share opinions and ideas. The group has a family rating and will be monitored. It is a must that the posts be kept clean and respectful.

You can subscribe and never post, you would just receive all posts from others who have something they want to share. The MHAC Group has a homepage. You can subscribe and go to the home page to read and post your contributions. There are links to Messages, Chat, Files, Photos, Links, Database, Polls, and Members. All these files are available for members to share. There are important documents stored in the Files area, the MHAC Constitution is already uploaded. The Links section is for Member's homepages, Club sites, and any Link with Canadian Miniature Horse content.

Here is the link to the MHAC Yahoo Groups Homepage. Check it out and subscribe if you like. You can unsubscribe and modify or manage your Group account to suit your preferences.

It is not mandatory that you subscribe in order for you to receive updates, but I am hoping for ease of communication many will consider it.

Please feel free to pass this information along to anyone who may also be interested in having a viable Canadian Miniature Horse registry.

Thanks you for taking the time to read this.

    Sincerely,

    Laura Engelsman.
