Pets are family too, right?  The orange one is Leo, the grey one is Xena (Warrior Kitty).  They came to our home just before our first Wedding anniversary, about a year old at the time.  They began life as cast offs, kittens someone didn't want.  A woman Lesli worked with slowly coaxed them into the house over six months only to discover that she was extremely allergic to cats.  They're still quite nervous, but have adapted to the point where they'll let the children touch them (although Xena has to have my protection when Melanie approaches) and will make an appearance if we have a small number of house guests.  This is not the best picture, but I have yet to snap a shot of them actually doing something.  They're unwilling to pause in the act of being cute for some reason, unlike my kids who are total hams.

We also keep a varying number of tropical fish and have for close to ten years.  Typically several small schools of tetras.  We generally have one tank set up - a 30 gallon hexagonal - in the living room with several small to medium schools of tetras.  At the moment, we have a ten-member mixed school of Glow-Light and Head-and-Tail Light tetras.  The introduction of a (particularly aggressive, as it turns out) male Guppy with a pair of females a couple of months before we moved resulted in the loss of more than two dozen carefully cultivated Neons in under a day in a half.  The whole school was gone almost before I realized it.  Obviously, this was a bad idea as he saw them as competition.  I probably should have known better, but we'd had Guppies in with Neons before with no adverse effects so I didn't think anything of it.

We have two other tanks in storage in the garage - 15 and 20 gallon rectangulars.  The 20 has been promised to Erik with the murderous Guppy and his harem once his room is organized. I wonder how many offspring will survive their first few seconds of life.  I might set the 15 up in the basement office when everything down there is squared away.
