A BALLAD OF THE TOM GREEN COUNTY

By John McClanahan 60-62

Verse 1
The men who sailed the Old Tom Green
Were quite a varied crew
From those who made the old girl run
To those who cooked the stew

We came from cities
We came from the farms
To answer our country's call
Youngsters green and seasoned Salts
But we were patriots all

Chorus:
Now sing a song of the Old Tom Green
As she made her ports of call
And remember all your shipmates true
When we were Sailors all

Verse 2
We worked and sailed and showed the flag
We saw the world at large
Not from a lofty cruiser's deck
But this old faithful barge

Now she rolled and slipped
And she banged the waves
But thanks to our hearty crew
We went where we had to go
And did what we had to do

Chorus:
Now sing a song of the Old Tom Green
As she made her ports of call
And remember all your shipmates true
When we were Sailors all

Verse 3
I wish that I could meet them all
I'd like to shake each hand
I guess that we will have to wait
To reach the Promised Land

And when we arrive
At that golden gate
And the keeper says come thru
We'll be proud that we once served
On the old T G Maru

That's ichi ichi go ku
That's ichi ichi go ku

Chorus
Now sing a song of the Old Tom Green
As she made her ports of call
And remember all your shipmates true
When we were Sailors all
