This page will be limited to decisions the Magnificent 7 have made relative to reunion planning or other ships company activities during 2002.
During the San Angelo Reunion Business Meeting Don Booth proposed an LST 1159 - Tom Green County Organization be established and be fully responsible for the next reunion and all other activities associated with our ship. Some more discussion resulted in an on the spot election of 7 Directors. One from each cruise. These men now have the responsibility of representing the men from their cruise and getting the next reunion organized and planned. The crew dubbed this group the magnificent 7, and the name seems to have stuck.
The Magnificent 7 are:
With the usual calm and grace displayed by the "Tom" Officers and Crew the work of organizing our new association began.
The first thing the Magnificent 7 completed was the first draft of the By laws of our Association. It was decided to keep the association casual, simple and have the document reflecting this kind of association as free from legal terminology as possible. This will be kept in mind as we progress with our updating
Once the first draft By-law work was completed the foundation for our Association was complete and it was time to elect and appoint the officers of the Ships Company. The elected Officers are:
Next on the agenda was the selection of the 2002 Reunion Site.
Several crewmen had proposed sites and some volunteered to be the coordinator if their site was selected.
At this point Mick Riedemann proposed a set of criteria that were used in the considerations of future site selections.
First and foremost was that the coordinator be identified. Preferably the coordinator or his assistants should live in or very near the selected site in order to facilitate site inspections and negotiations.
Have a list of plus's(assume there are no minus's), attractions, and a count of the airlines serving the site and the number of flights that arrive each day.
Finally in fairness to all we should try to mandate that there be an East Coast one year, west coast another, and mid-America another.
Three sites were initially in contention for an east coast, west coast, and mid-America. By this time you all know from the information published in the Ichi Ichi Go Ku that Portland, Oregon has been selected as the reunion site for 2002.
Another recent decision made by the Magnificent 7 was that once the reunion coordinator was named and his assistants selected, specific responsibilies would be delegated to that group. The reunion crew would be responsible for the planning, scheduling, implementing, controlling, and periodically reporting all aspects of the reunion. This includes the accounting and reporting of revenues from registration and all associated expenses.
All associations need to follow some set of rules and it was decided that by adopting Robert's Rules it would eliminate a lot of words in our bylaws. In reviewing these rules we determined that a vote of the ships company would be required to validate the Bylaws. Be prepared to cast your vote if you attend the next reunion.
More recently the Mag7 has been working on completing instructions for those of you that might be interested in proposing a reunion site for the 2003 reunion. The instructions define what should be contained in a proposal to make the selection decision by the Mag7 objective and fair. The last issue of the Ichi Ichi Go Ku has put out the call for 2003 reunion proposal. The instructions the majority of the Mag7 have agreed to can be viewed by activating the link below.

Conducting a reunion requires the kind of teamwork, communications, and coordination we learned while serving on the Tom. The Mag 7 has developed a reunion guideline that covers the entire process. The intent of this guideline is to assist both the Mag 7 and Reunion committee in the work involved. If you would like to review the guideline ,click here.
