The March 2006 Progress Report

I have been busy this past week, making calls, and getting all the following info together for the 6th LST 1159 Reunion. So here it is:

McCarran Airport to The Orleans
You depart out Door 9 or Door 10 at the Baggage Claim Level to catch the Grayline Shuttle to the hotel. Go first to the ticket booth and purchase your ticket. $5.50 for one way or $10.00 round trip. You do not need an advance reservation.

Sunday - October 1, 2006 - CHECK IN

Monday - October 2, 2006 - Women's Shopping Trip to Fashion Mall on the Strip.
Ladies - We will meet at the main entrance to the hotel @11:00am. The most reasonable way of transportation will be by cab. The cost of a cab is $15.00 + tip and one cab can accommodate 5 women. So - SHOP 'TILL YOU DROP

Tuesday - October 3, 2006 - 10:00am - noon - SHIPMATES MEETING
Regular coffee and decaf, water and cookies will be served.

Tuesday - October 3, 2006 - 6:30pm - 10:30pm - BANQUET DINNER
Theme - Patriotic - Red White and Blue.

Traditional Buffet

Mixed Greens-Five Salad Bar Condiments-Three Dressings
Vine Ripe Tomatoes, Onions, Basil & Blue Cheese Vinaigrette
Cucumber & Onion Salad, Corn & Pepper Salad, Mushroom Salad

We will have a new DJ this year, recommended by The Orleans. He sounds wonderful with great music from the 40s, 50s, 60s etc.
Still working on a speaker and Color Guard presentation.

Wednesday - October 4, 2006 - 7:00pm - 10:00pm - OPTIONAL TOUR
RIO HOTEL - SCENIC TOUR OF STRIP & FREMONT EXPERIENCE
Cost: $45.00 per person. If we have 30 or more - each person will have a refund of $5.00 each

You will depart from the Orleans @7:00pm .

The evening's tour is a must to see. First you will be taken to see the Masquerade Show @The Rio Hotel.

Next see the lights along the famous Las Vegas Strip. Observe an erupting volcano. Picture moving water dance to Italian Music on Lake Como.

After your scenic tour of the Strip, you will be dropped off Downtown to see the Fremont Street Experience. This is a unique concept of a sound & light show Las Vegas Style. Downtown casinos/hotels are at your disposal. You will be on your own at this point for approximately 1 1/2 hours before you are picked up and returned to The Orleans @10:00pm.

Thursday - October 5, 2006 - Checkout

HOSPITALITY ROOM
We will again have a beautiful hospitality suite starting Sunday morning @10:00am. We will have sodas, beer, water and snacks for everyone. Shipmates and guests will have special access to the floor where the hospitality suite is located and you will be advised of the hours when the suite will be opened when you 1st come to the hospitality suite on Sunday. IF YOU ARE NOT STAYING AT THE ORLEANS, PLEASE ADVISE Marlene and Leon of this because they will have to get you special access at the Front Desk.

COST PER PERSON WOULD BE $76.00
(This is based on #2 - $1,128 divided by 50 people = $23.00 + added to #1 fixed costs of $53.00)

Also -
This year as last year, there will be an additional $100.00 surcharge & $85.00 labor charge if we have under 50 people. If we do have these charges - these amounts will be taken out of the $500.00 Banquet deposit which has already been given to The Orleans

Although the food prices have gone up this year, we are very fortunate that The Orleans has reduced the price of the hospitality suite from $920.00 in 2005 to $393.00 for 2006. Also The Orleans is not charging us a room rental for the Ships' Meeting or for the Banquet Dinner. If we do fall under 50 people for the Banquet Dinner, there is a possibility there might be an increase from the $44.00 per person, but I would work for that not to happen.

The remainder of the door prizes and centerpieces I need to make - will take out of the funds I have available.

Some additional items -
On the Registration Form - could you also have a place for shipmates to list their cruise number and/or dates.

Last year - we had requests for Hats and shirts. Suggestions who could handle this?

In closing, I think that $76.00 is a great price this year. This represents only a $2.00 extra charge from last year's registration.
