LT Club Incorporated

History

The L.T. Club Inc. was formed as a Citizen Band Radio Club sometime prior to 1977.

The idea behind the formation of the Club was to enable Citizen Band users to be able to talk to one another without fear of being caught and prosecuted by the Radio Inspectors for using what was then an illegal Radio Transmitter.

The first minutes of an L.T. Club meeting we can find in our files was for February 1977 although there is no doubt that the Club came into being many years prior to this.

However to be fair to our claims we looked upon February 1977 as the date on which the L.T.Club was officially formed and a full committee elected. The Club was very active in the fight for legalisation of Citizen Band Radio in Tasmania organising several meetings with other clubs and attending meetings throughout the state.

Submissions were drawn up and forwarded on to the appropriate authorities in Canberra and finally on July 1 1977 C.B.Radio became legal throughout Australia.

From the day of legalisation The L.T.Club took on a more of a social club status with firstly a legalisation dinner being held and several other outings, get togethers and competitions being arranged.

Over the years since then the L.T. Club has been to the forefront in helping in the retension and expansion of the 27mhz Citizen Band by arranging and lodging submissions.

The U.H.F. band has not been neglected as the Club has held meetings and at one time did apply to get a repeater licence, ( a project that it later withdrew from). Also we lodged submissions with Canberra on the future of A.M. on 27mhz.

The L.TThe LT Club was incorporated in 1987 after many meetings and much discussion on whether this was the best step to take for the Club's future. The L.T. Club Inc. these days hold many social functions for the members and friends throughout the year and put all profits back into these functions in the form of subsidies for our Club dinners and Christmas Party and prizes for Fishing Competitions etc.

We are one of the oldest (if not the oldest) C.B. Radio Club in Australia as well as being one of the most financial with a substantial term investment working for us and the interest being paid into our operating account.

The L.T. Club Inc. has over the years helped many appeals, such as several of the bushfire and flood appeals, the Year of the Disabled, M.S. and several other worthy causes.
