Friends and Family

***This section wasn't done very well before, so I decided to redo it, but it's still as opinionated as ever so beware. I criticize almost everyone here.***
I guess a lot of the digidestined wouldn't really be Tai's friends if the the situation wasn't forced upon him, but I think it's really all for the best since all their personalities are so different and thus add variety to the show, and I really think Tai has gotten used to them, though I don't think he'll ever get used to some...

The Retired Folk

Agumon
Not exactly the ideal image of a fun time but he can be funny sometimes.

Additional Comments: Tom Fahn, the guy who does the voice for Agumon was in the rather recent movie, Stigmata, playing the MTA guy.

Sora Takenouchi
I try and I try and I can't find much more to say about this character except that she's kind, caring, and perfect for Tai (but I guess the producers decided to screw with our brains and let Matt have her). Grrrrr.

Her Digimon: Biyomon is probably the dumbest digimon from season one they've come up with, and that's all I have to say about her.

Additional Comments: What was wrong with soccer? What was wrong with Tai??? What is wrong with you?????

Yamato "Matt" Ishida
Matt is...well I don't know. I should like him, and I thought I did, but there was always something nagging at me, telling me that I didn't. "Why though?" was my question. He's cute, sensitive, has a nice voice, and even though he becomes depressed every once in a while, things like that usually only make a character more endearing to me. So I was confused and I searched for the answer and then at last I found it. Even though Tai goofs off a lot more than Matt, he is really much more mature and mentally stable than him. Tai never goes into a state of depression, or feels the need to have a brother to protect. He's fine with his life and doesn't need to be the only one in his sister's. In season two Matt's got a bit better about going off the deep end, but he still doesn't have Tai's boyish charm (nor that gorgeous smile ^_^). I know a lot of people hate him for the very fact that he's so popular, but that's not it. I just feel nothing towards this character. Nothing.

His Digimon: Gabumon has the coolest English accent but he is pretty dull, and reminds me of Watson from the Sherlock Holmes books. He's also pretty abused by Matt. He got a nasty cold and was spewing his mucus all over the place because Matt got so wraped up in finding T.K. that he forgot about the wolf-creature with the horn next to him.

Additional Comments: Um, since I didn't watch the series from the begginging I kinda wasn't sure whether Matt was a girl or a boy until I heard him talk. Can you blame me? He had those girly good looks and that green sleeveless sweater tailor-made for a girl.

Koushiro "Izzy" Izumi
Izzy is pretty cute too, and a credit to redheads everywhere, but it seems like he has no personality whatsoever sometimes. In the begginging we see this a lot of this, but he sort of gets a life in season two (he's head of the computer club). Season two Izzy is very cute even though he doesn't show up much.

His Digimon: Tentomon's a geek, but so adorable! (At least in his rookie forms) I don't think there's a digimon he doesn't know tons of info about, 'cept maybe that freak digimon, Kimeramon.

Jou "Joe" Kido
Joe was your standard worrywart a.k.a. nerd in season one, but he did a complete 180 in season two and now he's like...well you've seen him! I've said it the first time I did this section, and I'll say it again, he actually seems like the oldest of the group! He is much more mature, and acts like a father figure to Cody along with Izzy. *shudders* He's also got some fashion sense, which I think makes a lot of the difference along with his new easy-going personality. He doesn't wear those hideous outfits anymore, and has gotten rid of those ugy, square-rimmed glasses for some cool thin-rimmed ones.

His Digimon: Oh my gosh, how lucky can a guy get??? Gomamon is the coolest digimon in the world and nothing will make me change my mind on that. He's so adorable and funny and...sniff, he came in like ninth place for the idiotic Who's the Mon thing on Fox Kids out of like the eleven digimon, and all I ask is why??? What's not to like???

Mimi Taichikawa
Well, this is one character that got screwed (sorry, if you think that's "a bad word") by the dubbers. Her personality (or so I hear) was totally made up by the guys that decided to take all that good stuff flowing from the voices of the Japanese characters in Digimon and turn it into a bunch of lame jokes and stupid puns (actually I find a lot quite funny, but I really don't want the show to turn into something for cheap laughs). In the English version she's a ditz, but I kind of found her apathy to her surroundings quite funny. Then she tuned into an animal-lover and I was like "Huh?" First you wouldn't touch a Numemon and now your fawning over them? She was supposed to have good fashion sense but I never did see that. Sure, that ugly red dress was okay, but only compared to Sora's getup. I guess she realized that because she started wearing some cool clothes in season two, but she also decided to chop off her lovely brown hair and dye it pink. *sigh* Now she looks like she has an octopus on her. I'm not even going to start on the other ways she did her hair.

Her Digimon: Palmon's alright, but so underused and just a little dim-witted.

Additional Comments: Philece Sampler does the voice of Cody as well as Mimi and also does the voice for Rena in Dinozaurs along with Wendee Lee, the season one voice actress for T.K.

Michael
Well, he decided he wanted to date Yolei of all people, so that tells you something right off doesn't it? And even if you do like Yolei, you have to admit it is a bit ah, unusual for him to ask out a girl who lives on the opposite side of the world, and then just leave without going on a date. Also, he dresses like he's from the 80s, has horrible hair, and a scratchy voice (I know it's done by the same voice actor as season two T.K. so don't bother telling me that). I don't know if Mimi would be able to help him with the hair problems, but she could probably give him some voice lessons.

His Digimon: Well, we don't really see much of Botamon so I can't really say anything about it, but it has no personality at this point.

The Poi Brothers
Three brothers from Hong Kong that really like Kari. They all have black hair, wear white sleeveless shirts, and think they know Kung Fu. That's why they pushed grandpa out of the way like they were going to kick the tar out of Mojyamon and sent their digimon to fight him right?

Their Digimon: Octomon is just plain weird.

Mina
A pretty girl from India, that got snubbed by the Poi brothers for Kari. I wouldn't feel too bad if I were you Mina, they were pretty silly if you ask me.

Her Digimon: Her digimon is Meramon, which I think is cool.

Phil
A little black boy who I thought looked really young. All these digidestined are supposed to be around Michael's age, but they look younger than Davis, and that'samazing, considering how child-like he acts!

His Digimon: I really don't know. I think it was a creature similar to Birdramon, only with a metal mask over it's beak. Doesn't Birdramon have something like that too? I just can't remember.

Lou
A digidestined boy who I think is meant to be Native American. This is a guess based mostly on the fact that there should be a Native American digidestined in America, so don't hate me if I'm wrong and blame me for stereotyping. I really like him because, and I quote, "Actually I've never heard of you."

His Digimon: You'd think Davis would pass out after seeing Tortomon again.

Steve
A boy who looks like Harry Potter, only with light brown hair.

His Digimon: His digimon is Frigimon, whom I will always have a soft spot for because of the episode, "Subzero Ice Punch" and what he did for Tai. Agumon too.

Maria
A nice girl that I can't remember much about.

Her Digimon: Centaurmon looks creepy. He may be nice, but he's still creepy looking.

Derek/Derrick
I really don't remember much about this character either since I was on the phone with a friend when they showed this episode. (I got off to see the second part with Tai and Izzy though. ^_^) He sort of reminded me Ash from Pokemon though, and I think that was because of his digimon.

His Digimon: His digimon is Crabmon, which then digivolves to Coelamon. Out of all the creatures from Pokemon, Crabby was the only one I really liked, and Crabmon just didn't measure up.

Catherine
Tai's rebound girl.

Her Digimon: Her digimon is Floramon, which digivolves into Kiwimon, and correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that a bird? And being a bird, it would be fauna rather than flora right? I don't get it, but Agumon and Patamon don't seem to care.

Rosa
A hyperactive Mexican digidestined who hit on Ken faster than you could say "novia". Can you blame her? Ken looked really, really cute in that episode. She shouldn't have been mean to Wormmon though. ;(

Her Digimon: I like Gotsumon, but what happened to his goofy personality? I guess being with someone like Rosa does that to you huh?

Ana
The short-haired Russian girl.

Her Digimon:I think hers was the Unimon.

Sonya
The long-haired Russian girl.

Her Digimon: The Scythmon perhaps?

Yuri
The really, really, really cute Russian boy who thought Yolei (or "the one with the purple hair" as he called her) was cute instead of Sora. If this was pre-A Very Digi Christmas, I'd question his taste, but now I like Yolei much better than Sora, especially in this episode(Digimon World Tour Pt. 3), in which Yolei took charge and Sora just stood there like one of the digidestined mothers and giggled. Oh please you future homemaker.

His Digimon: Um, his was the Kuwagamon. Yep, definitely the Kuwagamon.

The Replacements

Takeru "T.K." Takaishi
T.K. was really annoying as a little kid, and then he grew up. When he was a kid, he had an awful fashion sense, and would wear that...that hideous green hat and a vest that didn't look quite right on him. In season two he sorta kept the colors he had in season one but decided to actually look cool in them, and replaced the hat with that awesome "Gilligan" one. Well, I mean awesome only in comparison to the first one. I really don't know why he's not the leader of the digidestined in season two. T.K. has the experience, the level of maturity, and the other digidestined actually respect him. Okay, now I feel that he shouldn't be the leader because he has mental/emotional issues just like Matt did. I guess crazy runs in the family.

His Digimon: T.K. got stuck with such a lame digimon, that combination of a guinea pig and a bat. It suited him when he was a kiddie, but now he's all grown up and the Patamon/T.K. team just doesn't work anymore. He's got the most annoying voice, especially when he's saying, "Patamon armor-digivolve to..." True he digivolves to Angemon, but have you noticed how huge Angemon and Angewomon's feet are?

Addtional Comments: If you miss Takeru's season one voice, don't feel too bad. Wendee Lee, the voice actress for season one T.K. is also featured in a number of other famous anime. She does the voice of Rena in Dinozaurs, Faye Valentine in Cowboy Bebop, Yui Hongo in Fushigi Yugi, Kiyone in the Tenchi Muyo series, Umi Ryuuzaki/Princess Emeraude in Magic Knight Rayearth, Vanessa Leeds in Robotech, Kei Pirate and Twilight Suzuka in Outlaw Star, which will be airing on Cartoon Network on Jan 15 I think, and voices in El Hazard, Dirty Pair, Armitage III, and Battle Athletes. I think she also directed Outlaw Star.

Hikari "Kari" Kamiya
Hikari was this little weakling in season one who often got possesed by weird spirits, but she brought out the caring and somewhat sensitive side of Tai so we don't care. In season two she became such a flirt and uses her capabilities to torment Davis (hmmmm, I think I'm gonna call him Daisuke from now on) endlessly. I think she likes T.K. more though, and I hope that the teasing of Daisuke is only teasing. I'm suprised that Tai hasn't kicked both of their @$$es, considering how she's his little sister.

Her Digimon: Gatomon can beat up all the other digimon any day of the week and she knows it. Go for it Gatomon! You know you don't want those rookie imbiciles hanging around you any longer.

Daisuke "Davis" Motomiya
I probably shouldn't talk too bad about this character, considering all those people who like him out there, but I'm going to anyway. ^_^ Simply put, Daisuke is arrogant, annoying, and needy, and not only that but he snores in his sleep too. He hates his sister, a quality that just ruins all the sibling love that was so emphasized in season one (well you can't really blame him, but you can't really blame Jun for feeling the same about him either). He is a Tai-wannabe, and that pisses me off because he doesn't have the level of maturity that Tai does (don't laugh) and seeks approval from both Kamiyas way too much. He also has some awful clothes, and I think you'll agree with me at least on the shoes, which are exactly like the ones Joe wore in season one. The only good thing about him is that he believed in Ken when most people didn't, but I don't think that this was because he was a good leader. Really, if someone that had enslaved hundreds of digimon, abused them, and tried to kill you on several occasions suddenly appeared out of nowhere and killed another digimon in front of your eyes, wouldn't you be a little suspicious instead of "He's probably an okay guy."

His Digimon: So many people like Veemon that treading on this territory would be very imprudent indeed, so I'll just leave you with a quick thought, he's just like Daisuke, but you can symapathize a little with him for being stuck with the guy.

Additional Comments: Okay, Daisuke isn't that bad, since he really does try, but that hair really needs some work.

Miyako "Yolei" Inoue
I take back the bad comments I made about this character before. She didn't show any good qualities then, but now I see that she's actually a very pretty girl with a good heart who just can't be as sweet as Kari no matter how much she tries. She is actually better than Kari in the fact that she doesn't all of a sudden start feeling helpless, and will speak her mind when she feels the urge to, which I admire, especially when it's speaking her mind to Davis. However, I still think that the creators just got lazy or something in season two or something, with both the children and the digimon. Her weird fantasy about Mimi and her living a wonderful life together is still unexplained and the image of her scuttling up that control spire like a crab still scares me.

Her Digimon: A British hawk trying to disguise itself as a Native American hawk with abosolutely no personality. By the way, I think Shurimon's the ugliest digimon I've ever seen. A bird/plant is just too scary, but his attacks are pretty cool I have to admit.

Iori "Cody" Hida
Cody's cute, but I sense Matt-itis. He's showing the tell-tale signs of a depressant everywhere in season two. First it was him and that baby tomato. Remember in "A New Digitude" when he was finishing his lunch? He told some lady that might have been a teacher that his father told him to always eat everything on his plate before he died and then split the baby tomato in half. A disturbing scene, no? He wouldn't take the digimental of reliablitiy until Joe had a talk with him, and then he fumes about Ken while bringing a kendo stick down in the air. Run, Kensuke, run for the hills.

His Digimon: A digimon with a Texas accent. Terrific. *mutters something foul about the dubbers*.

Kensuke "Ken" Ichijouji
Ken's the only depressant that I like on the show. He's also really cute, escpecially in a shirt and khakis, but no they put him in that ugly Digimon Emperor costume and that gray uniform meant for an insane asylum-warden. And oh how I wish he had the haircut like the one he had as a little boy. It's true that I didn't like him much when he was the Digimon Emperor (Kaizer you dubbers, Kaizer!), but then he was abusing others to help hide his own misery, and also he had that really annoying voice then too.

His Digimon: Wormon's adorable and funny, kinda like Gomamon, only he's more...timid I guess. (I'm going to try to find a better word). He's my second favorite Digimon.

Willis
Willis is soooooo cute and adorable! I thought I wouldn't like him at first, but that completely changed when I saw the movie. He practically carried the entire third part of it! He's probably my second favorite Digimon character now, and I really hope he appears again. He had the same kind of sadness Ken has, but like Ken he doesn't go around fighting or badmouthing others because of it. He just deals with it on his own.

His Digimon: He's got two. Don't make me choose between them.

Additional Comments: Willis, get rid of your loser friend Daisuke!

His Family

Mrs. Kamiya
A simple housewife who we get too little insight into for me to judge. Enabler, Enabler, Enabler! And kudos to you for having a highlighting problem!

Mr. Kamiya
I like Matt's dad better.

Others

Gennai
Gennai, for some reason reminds me of the perverted old man from Dragonball/ DBZ/ DGT. There's not much to say about this character except that he was one cute sword-wielding guy! (If you're confused you probably didn't see the flashback episode of when the digieggs got created.) In "Dramon Power", he appeared again as the cute robed guy, but I didn't like him as much because he was so arrogant. It may be just the English version, but if I had a nickel for every time he called himself good looking...

Benjamin
The first Gennai clone to appear, and my favorite out of Gennai and all his look-alikes. This is probably because he doesn't keep on saying what a great-looking guy he is, or start doing bad Kung Fu moves, or wear a hot Santa outfit at the beach in the middle of summer, or arrive after the danger has passed.

Jackie
The Gennai-clone I was refering to when I said, "bad Kung Fu moves".

Hogan
The "Down Under" Gennai-clone with the VERY, VERY, BAD choice in swimwear and a knack for portraying Jolly Old Saint Nick, only without the presents. :(

José (the Magnificent)
Gennai's Mexican clone who must have gone to the same martial arts school as Jackie because they both do the same bad Kung-Fu.

Elya
The Russian clone who arrived, forcing Yolei to resort to using Russian food terms like Caviar.

Mr. Ishida
Now you know where Matt and T.K. get their looks.

Ms. Takaishi
Probably the only digidestined mother that doesn't act or talk like a ditz. I am really starting to think this show is sexist.

Michel
T.K. and Matt's grandpa who lives in France, and for a grandpa he's pretty hot. I mean, compare Cody's Grandpa and him and you'll understand. I'm assuming that he's French because of his really strong patriotism (Vivé la France!) and his strong (if fake) accent, making T.K. and Matt at least part French, which is kind of neat.

Mr. Izumi
A man not quite as bright as his son.

Mrs. Izumi
Same as above, only replace 'man' with 'woman' and 'his' with 'her'.

Mr. Taichikawa
A very stern man (even I felt bad for Davis while he was questioning him), who spoils his wife.

Mrs. Taichikawa
She acts more like a child than Mimi.

Mrs. Takenouchi
Not the bake-sale type of mother, but nevertheless a good mother and an interesting character.

Mr. Motomiya
Davis's dad showed up for a very brief period of time, but in that short time I decided I liked him because he jokes with Ms. Takaishi at Davis's expense.

Jun Motomiya
This girl can make any anti-Matt people (are there any?) feel sorry for him. However, seeing the expressions on Matt's face whenver he's around her are just priceless so I hope she appears more often. Also, she annoys Daisuke there's another reason to like her (for me anyways).

Cody's Grandpa
This guy also reminds me of the perverted guy from Dragonball for some reason (Did that show make me stereotyped against old men? Hopefully not.). I like him, but he really doesn't have much taste in food or beverages. Really, do you think old people drink prune juice because they want to?

Yolei's Brother
He's fairly ugly, and is on bad terms with Yolei. Seriously, what happened to all that sibling love from season one? I guess this show decided to be more realistic.

Mr. Fujiyama
Your standard teacher, but it seems to me that he and Tai are pretty close. ~_'
