Periods happen to every healthy girl in the entire world. Don't be ashamed to talk about it!
What Are The Signs??
Discharge - a white/yellow/clear substance you find in your knickers. This starts around two years before your first period. You also get discharge in between periods too. It is waste that your vagina produces, and wants to get rid of.
Boobs enlarge - This usually happens at about nine or ten. They enlarge enough to be able to produce milk when a woman is pregnant.
Cramps - You may find a near jolting pain that is referred to as 'pin pain'. It feels very painful and happens because your womb is working around the clock to make you able to be fertilized.
Armpit hair - They start sprouting usually a little bit before the first period and get coarser after your first period. You can get rid of it, with hair removal cream or shaving it off.
Pubic Hair - It becomes noticable when you are about nine or ten, sometimes later or earlier. It becomes thicker and coarser and it is there to protect you!!
Moody Cow - Hormones go haywire, and it makes you have mood swings over little things. This is often called PMS or PMT.
How To Prepare.
Sanitary Towels - Make sure you take one or two to school and hide it in your bag. You`d rather be prepared than be caught out and have to manage without!
Read - Find books on periods and always read the instructions on when to change the pad. Leave it on for too long and it could cause bad whiffs and bacteria. It is safe to change your pads every 4-8 hours. Don`t wear thin pads in bed , as they may leak and aren`t suitable.
Tampons - If you have anm active lifestyle, or like the freedom of a tampon, choose it. Tampons have been linked to a disease called TSS. Toxic Shock Syndrome can kill. It may only happen if you leave your tampon in for more than eight hours.Always wear tampons if you go swimming, cos pads will just floast and leave you looking like you poo-ed yourself!
