The C-211 was designed by CASA (Construcciones Aeronauticas SA) spagnola acording to a contract with the Ministerio del Aire for a transport aircraft in order to replace the T.2s (Junkers Ju 52/3m), the T.3s (Douglas DC 3) and the T.7s(CASA 207 Azor) in service at the Ejército del Aire. The result was a twin-engine robust and economic, almost a little C-130, without pressurization, with fixed gear, able to operate from strips 400m long, with no land structures. The prototype flew on march 26th, 1971, and this aircraft had a good success in the civil and military versions. The licensed production was carried on in Indonesia (by the IPTN (Nurtanio Aircraft Industry). CASA also developped some military specific versions of C-212, to be used on the sea as the ASW, with improved navigation and comunication devices, a search radar with a 360° coverage beneath the fuselage, MAD, tactical and acoustic buoys data elaboration systems, electronic mission devices, torpedoes carrying capability, air-to-surface missiles, a search light, APS 128 front radar smoke generators and other devices. Almost 50 aircraft in the 2 variant were sold in Spain and in other 6 nations.
