In the remote English countryside, hypocondriacal Mrs. Bramson resides with her niece, Olivia Grayne. When a missing woman turns up murdered Olivia suspects her aunt's new companion, Danny, who has charmed his way into the cantankerous old woman's good graces. Tension mounts as police close in and Olivia finds herself attracted to the man she thinks is a murderer. Montgomery delivers an outstanding performance as Danny with terrific support from Dame May Whitty and Rosalind Russell. Emlyn Williams, who wrote the play upon which the film was based and created the role of Danny on the stage, gave his personal approval of Montgomery's performance.
