    Mr. Bay, one of Broadway's most distinguished scenic artists, was born in Centralia, Washington. He attended the Carnegie Institute of Technology and Westminster and Marshall Colleges and the University of Colorado. Before designing his first Broadway show, "Chalk Dust," in 1935, he created summer stock sets in Bucks County, Atlanta and Stamford. He was the 1941-42 recipient of the Guggenheim Memorial Scholarship. Among the many Broadway productions he has designed are "One Third of a Nation," "The Little Foxes," "The Eve of St. Mark," "Uncle Harry," "One Touch of Venus," "Carmen Jones," "Follow the Girls," "Ten Little Indians," "Catherine Was Great," "Up in Central Park," "Deep Are the Roots," "Show Boat," "Come Back, Little Sheba," "The Shrike," "Midsummer" and "Sandhog." Big business also calls upon Mr. Bay frequently to design settings for their industrial shows, and he is frequently invited to discuss his craft before college and university drama groups.
