SUMMARY: Lucy is put in charge of putting together the ceremony for Yankee Doodle Day, a patriotic celebration honoring their Revolutionary War ancestors, and plans include unveiling a statue of a Minuteman. Lucy has chosen Fred to portray a town crier, Ricky will deliver the dedication speech at the unveiling ceremony, and Ethel is doing all of Lucy's errands regarding the celebration. The statue is delivered to the Ricardos' home, and Lucy and Ethel are admiring Mr. Silvestri's (The sculptor) work. Then Little Ricky rushes out to tell Lucy that his dog Fred has run away. Forgetting that the statue is still inside the trailer, that is still attached to the back bumper of the car, Lucy takes off. The statue of course, is destroyed and in pieces. Lucy calls Mr. Silvestri and asks him to make another statue. He says it will take two weeks to create. Lucy is in a panic because it is too late to postpone the ceremony because everyone is already on their way. Lucy has an idea, however. At the ceremony, Ricky is delivering his speech, and unveils the statue. The statue somewhat resembles Lucy. Using his doggie senses, Fred the dog promptly licks Lucy's face which blows her cover, because as well all know, stone statues don't move.
