Dear Parents,

Welcome back to another school year!  I hope this letter will help you throughout the year!

  1. Scholastic Book Orders:  If you would like to order books, please fill in the back of the book club form.  Please send a cheque payable to Scholastic Canada Inc.  Cash will not be accepted because it cannot go through the mail.  Orders will arrive 3-4 weeks after I complete the total orders.  Please return forms and cheques as soon as possible to ensure accurate and quick delivery.
  2. Sharing Days:  A day has been assigned to your child to share a book, pictures, a special story or event.  Toys are not encouraged as share items.  Share time helps the children develop self-confidence and further develop listening and speaking skills.  Share time will continue until Christmas.  Please see the assigned sheet for you child's day.
  3. Social Skills Programme: As part of our Social Skills programme, the children are to spend recess periods developing and practicing these skills with their peers.  Stuffed animals, dolls and action figures should be kept as home toys. The children can bring soccer balls, basketballs, tennis balls, skipping ropes, etc., to encourage interaction, physical activity and the development of appropriate group play and fun.
  4. Running Shoes:  If possible, please have an extra pair of running shoes to be kept in the locker for sym and snowy weather.
  5. Facial Tissues:  A donation of a box of tissues/Kleenex would be appreciated.
  6. Spelling:  Spelling will be taught this year.  The focus of the programme will be to look for patterns in words, rules, long and short vowels and consonant blends.  New words will be introduced on Mondays.  A review will be held on Fridays.  The children are free to bring their notebooks home but they must be returned on the next school day.
  7. Homework:  Any unfinished homework will be written in your child's agenda or homework book.  Your child is encouraged to read every night to develop and practice their skills.  Reviewing addition and subtraction facts to 10 would be beneficial during first term.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you in advance for your co-operation.

Sincerely,

Miss.  M.  Leahy
