Usagi really comes off as the blonde airhead in a lot of ways. She does not have any plans for her future, prefering instead to wait for the future to come to her. She is obsessed about things which obsess every teenager...the current cultural icons, shopping, etc. She has a difficult time keeping a schedule and she has a lot of trouble in various school subjects.

Outside of her hobbies of video games and food, Usagi is the quintessential romantic...and she likes to play matchmaker...which gets her into way too much trouble. In "Mercury's Mental Match", Usagi attempts to set Ami up with one of her classmates. In "Grandpa's Follies", Usagi used her disguise power in an attempt to set Rei up with a down-and-out rock star who decided to crash at the temple, and in "Tuxedo Melvin", Usagi pairs Naru with Umino by convincing him that he should be more heroic and macho...which he takes to the extreme of becoming the crimefighter "Tuxedo Melvin" and nearly getting himself killed in a fight with a monster.

As Sailor Moon, the leader of the senshi, she takes on a more commanding personality and the flaws of her normal identity seem to fade into the background (most of the time). It kinda depends on the situation. In "The Power of Friendship", Usagi and Luna race to the scene where Zoisite has turned the priest into Vulvo the Vulture. Seeing Naru's in trouble, Usagi is about to transform when Luna shouts, "Wait for the others for backup," or something to that effect. Usagi's response was a quick, "There isn't time for that, Luna!" However, shortly the other half of the coin resurfaces when Vulvo, fitting into the role of the boxer at a prize fight, goes through the motions... "And in the blue corner wearing a Sailor suit...", to which Sailor Moon replies, "HaaHaa, Sailor 'Boom Boom' Moon."

What I find interesting is that the same people who complain about this kind of thing, and who either want Usagi to grow up YESTERDAY or find a new leader are the same people who like the ramblings of their favorite comic heroes...what a double standard.

Usagi REALLY has had an ample opportunity to grow up early in the series, especially in regards to the events surrounding the death of Nephrite.

When Usagi discovers that Naru is in love with the evil bad guy, she attempts to tell her about Nephrite's evilness. Having blundered that attempt, Usagi then attempts to protect Naru both from herself and Nephrite. In a short time, Usagi and the Sailors realize that Naru has had an effect on Nephrite, but before the possibility of a good Nephrite can be explored, he is mortally wounded by Zoisite, who leaves Naru kneeling with Nephrite's dying body in her arms...a damn powerful scene for a cartoon aimed at teenage girls...and it is carried off VERY well...as was the scene earlier when Sailor Moon nearly kills Naru when she jumps to shield Nephrite from a tiara attack. Sailor Moon's only option is to scream at the tiara to STOP, which it does, mere inches from Naru's head.

Usagi grows as the first series progresses, culminating in the battle against Queen Beryl, where she sees all of her friends 'killed' by the Gloom and Doom Girls and ends up facing the Queen and the possessed Mamoru alone.

Later, in the second series, Usagi and Mamoru break up. This is caused by a dream being inflicted on Mamoru.

Best Scene:

After the scene mentioned on Sailor Mercury's page, Ami tells Usagi about her confrontation with Nephrite. Usagi looses it, "Wimpy? He called me WIMPY" Then, off she goes screaming about how she will absolutely pulverize the jerk once she gets a hold of him. Luna, being held by Ami, looks over and says, "This from a girl who cries during pillow fights."
