The ruins of Merindol

Merindol is a small village located in the south of France, in the heart of
the Provence region, at the edge of the Luberon Mountains. Next to the
village, on the top of a rocky hill, the ruins of an old castle can be seen.
During the 15th century, Merindol was mainly inhabited by the Waldensians
(Vaudois in French), followers of a Reformed Christian Religion. In
1545, they were
slaughtered by mercenaries and local nobles, as per an
official warrants delivered on request of the Catholics Authorities.
