I was working on my Oregon Hammack line and was looking for some Hammacks My Hammacks came to Union & Wallowa Co.in early 1860's, saw Margaret Hammack's name. Think must be related,I believe all the Hammack Families in Union and Wallowa counties were related. They came west from Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri and Iowa, small world. I have always heard our family originated from Germany, also. There were three brothers who came into the United States via the New England colonies and then into North Carolina, Georgia, and into Alabama. I am of the Alabama Sasser's. My Grandfather was James Albert Sasser, my GGrandfather was Delphine (Dell, Dale) Monroe Sasser and my GGGrandfather was John B. Sasser. However, as I am trying to trace our family, I get as far as John B. I have been told John B. Sasser's father was John S. Sasser, but have not been able to find him. Your website is quite interesting. I am working with my sister-in-law, Jacquita Walker, on her and my late husband's Cobb family ancestors. My husband's Mother was Nettie Cobb, oldest daughter of Nathan Walker and his 2nd wife,Rachel McKiddy. Unfortunately, your site lists Rachel's husband as William A. "Willie" Cobb. Nettie's siblings are Lucille, Everett, Ollidean, Nadine, Mabel, and Gladys, children of Nathan Cobb and Rachel McKiddy who lived near Macomb, in Pottawatomie Co. Oklahoma. Nathan's first wife, Nicie, is buried in Red Oak Cemetery in Cleveland Co. OK. Nathan and Rachel are buried in Prairie View Cemetery, Pottawatomie Co., OK along with Rachel's 2nd husband, Edolphus R. Elder. I would like to correct the errors and send you some pictures and some stories that Jacquita has written about her Mother, Nettie, and her grandparents, Nathan and Rachel. Three of the ladies in the picture are my great aunts, Leah (Sasser) Langley, Lena (Sasser) Hale, and Lesa (Sasser) Cobb. I belive the spelling is wrong on the name of the school, I was just married at the church on October 5th 2002. The spelling for the church is Mount Ararat. The hymn that begins, "When nature was sinking in stillness to rest," appears in numerous hymnbooks years before the Civil War occurred, and could not have been written by the prisoner in Sandusky, as the message on this website says. The hymn can be found for example in the hymnbook Revival Melodies, published in 1843 in Boston, with the title, "Christ in the Garden."
