    THANKS, CUZ MIKE, FOR SHARING!
    Mike writes that
". . . several years ago I purchased a box at the estate sale of
Bertha Ogden. In that box were some paper items about Col. John A. Black.
For several years I have tried to find out when he was made a Colonel and
to whom he led. . . . Do you have any info on his military service? . . ."

    James Dixon Black
was one of the founders of Union College in 1879 and is said to have
been the one who proposed the name of the new college.
He was president of Union College in 1910-1912.

His son, Pitzer Black, was also a lawyer, practicing for 70 years in
Barbourville and thus breaking his father's record of 64 years.
