    Doc Martin's Suicide
    ~a synopsis of the news story~
    by Doc's great-grandson, John R. Sanders
    ~~~
    Seems one day back in 1904 (May 30, to be exact),
    Richard Byron "Doc" Martin got rip-roaring drunk and tried
    to "do in" Emma's mother with an axe. He failed, due to her
    having her hair done up in a tight bun on top, and also
    due to the intervention of Emma's brother William, who
    whomped ol' Pop upside the head with a chunk of firewood.
    Doc promptly wandered into a neighbor's orchard,
    where he committed suicide by cutting his throat.
