~Comments by Glenn E. Perry ~~~~~ Sam Woolum is buried alone at the Woolum old homeplace at Tedders, which was later the home of his daughter Lucy (Woolum) Parrott, and then, until the late 1960s, the home of Lucy's son William McKinley Parrott. A lot of people are mistaken about Sam's place of burial, but his g-grandson, Charles Parrott, tells me that he used to take care of Uncle Sam's grave [now confirmed by Harley Jones's photos of the gravesite and nearby areas]. ~~~~~ Scroll down to lower area of this page for notes regarding the burial location of Sam's wife Mary-Pop, and a photo of her headstone. |

Mary Elizabeth "Pop"(Taylor) Woolum daughter of Jacob "Isaac" &Rhoda(Smith) Taylor b: 19 Mar 1829 Clay Co, KY d: 05 Jan 1916 Aunt Mary-Pop is buried at the Wilson-Black Cemetery, near Callahan Church, in Knox Co, KY, located down Big Richland Creek, closer than Tedders is to Barbourville. At the time of her death, she was staying with her daughter, Lucy (Woolum) Parrott. The Parrott family came from the Callahan area, although in later years they too lived at Tedders. (Headstone photo provided by Danny Cobb) The intention was to move Aunt Pop back to the Woolum homeplace at Tedders, Big Richland, Knox Co, KY - to be laid to rest alongside her husband - when weather permitted the following spring, but that never was done. Therefore, Uncle Sam Woolum is buried alone at the Woolum homeplace at Tedders, which was later the home of his daughter Lucy Parrott, and then, until the late 1960s, of Lucy's son William McKinley Parrott. A lot of people are mistaken about Sam's place of burial, but his g-grandson, Charles Parrott, tells me that he used to take care of Sam's grave [now confirmed by Harley Jones's photos of the gravesite and nearby areas]. |
