The ADERHOLDT's came from Germany where the name was
spelled ADERHOLDT, or ADERHOLTZ. After arriving
in America, the family name took on many different spellings. The reason the same family
changed the spelling is not known. The spellings are: Adderholt,
Adderholdt, Aderholt, Aderhold, Adderhold, Atherhold, and there still may be
others. William Douthard spelled it ADERHOLT, instead of ADERHOLDT, dropping the last
"d". It appears that William Douthard may
have been one of the first to change the spelling in Alabama.
An excerpt from "The Aderhold/t Collection",
Volume I, authored by Mr. William Cash:
"*Mormon (LDS) records
show that the ADERHOLDs of east and west central Germany may trace their ancestry back to
a "Jacob ADERHOLD", born,. c. 1599, in Brandenburg.
Jacob ADERHOLD married Dorthea VOSSES about 1618. It is known that they had at least four
children. Mormon records show a "Hans ADERHOLD", as the father of Magdelena
Catharina ADERHOLD, born March 4, 1661, in Nohra, Sachsen, a village located about18 miles
west of Nordhausen/Uthleben.
Hans could be the son of Martinus ADERHOLD, born 1619, and the grandfather of Johann
Nicolai ADERHOLD, born 1691, but there is no documentary proof of this." |
I wish I could put
all the information I have on this family, on this site, but it would be impossible.
Please go to your local Library and check for the "Aderhold/t Collection"
volumes. As stated above, they are authored by Mr. William "Bill"
Cash. He is of Aderhold/t descent himself, a direct descentant of Johann Gorg
ADERHOLD. He put many years of work into these tomes, and has
placed copies of them in several libraries across the country. I can offer lookups
to anyone who is unable to do the search themselves. If the information is in the
books, I will gladly send it to you. Thank God for people like Bill who care where
they came from, are willing to go the extra mile to find their heritage, and then be more
than willing to share it with others. Mr.Cash has documented everything.
He has verification on records not only here in the USA, but also in Germany.
Excerpt from "Aderhold/t
Collection":
"Both Jacob and his
wife, Elizabeth, are buried in the old "Beaver Dam Church Cemetery", about 8
miles east of Cherryville in Gaston County, North Carolina. Jacob became a sucessful
farmer and land owner. Three of their sons, Frederick William, Sr., John
Abraham "Abram" and Jacob Israel, and one daughter Elizabeth "Becky"
and her husband James "Jimmy" Privit, followed the pioneer trail of their two
uncles, John Conrad and John Georg, (changed to "George"), and in the 1840s
moved to the area near modern Jacksonville, in Calhoun County, Alabama.
The other eight children of Jacob and Elizabeth remained in the Gaston County area of
North Carolina. This more or less split the descendants of Jacob and Elizabeth ADERHOLDT
into two groups, the "North Carolina Clan" and the "Alabama
Clan". Even today, there are several families of Jacob's descendants living in
or near the original settlement sites in Lincoln/Gaston County, North Carolina and Calhoun
County, Alabama." |
Beginning with Johann
Caspar Aderhold/t they had trades of Tailor-masters to grist-mill owners and operators,
carpenters, and barbers. There are probably other trades and careers along the
lines that are not known.
Excerpt from "Aderhold/t
Collection":
*"In the Battle of
Brandywine at Chadd's Ford, a few miles north of Philadelphia, General Howe's British
forces drive the 10,500 men of George Washington back toward Philadelphia. Frederick
William ADERHOLD/T fought with General Washington's troops in this battle against the
British." (September 9-12, 1777) |
I could go on with this
information, but I would end up with a book, and the books have already been written and
published. So go check on them. You will not be sorry.
