Annie Gallup

The slight figure of Annie Gallup before the crowd on this April night commanded attention. With a hushed voice, her words came on like a flood, like a rhythmic invitation into the world around us.

Weaving her song-stories like a special blanket to cover the evening, Annie Gallup brought life to her words. She performed songs from her latest album, "Swerve," including "Money," "What I Know" and "Georgia O'Keefe." Her intricate guitar work meshed perfectly with her mini-fictions, delicately fleshing out all the characters. From her mother's "Blue Dress" to the object of affection in "Red Hair." Gallup introduced everyone to the subtle truths and overt meanings found in all of us.

Gallup played some songs that will be part of her upcoming one-woman theatre show, plus what she called "an honest-to-God love song." Sharing her words, Gallup left the crowd still wishing for more and wondering how she manages to say so much in a package as compact as a song or a poem.
