Another full house of people who love a good night of music were assembled for something not yet seen or heard at Meeting Grace, an all-instrumental show featuring the incredibly gifted Peter Sprague.
It was a family show, no question about it, as Peter was joined by other Sprague's -brother Tripp on flute, sax and harmonica and father Hall on percussion. Also joining in was Kevin Hennessy on bass. The foursome fit well into the small space that serves as the house's stage area. The eager crowd, bellies full with treats & coffee, anxiously awaited the band to strike it up.
This show was special for another reason. Peter's known for making remarkable sounds come from his guitars. To achieve just the perfect sound, he needs some volume and other amplification. Peter and all the guys playing were very aware of the unique atmosphere of the house and worked very well with this small difference and no one was disappointed with the resulting sounds and music.
Starting with a piece called "Rounded Corners," the Peter Sprague Group wound their way through classic jazz and original compositions. The intensely appreciative audience was enthralled and hung on every note through each of both sets played that evening.
Rounding up the night with a "funk" piece called "Acid Peter," each player's clear mastery of their instruments and sincere love for the music came through without question and brought the crowd to its feet in a rousing Meeting Grace ovation.
My sincere thanks to everyone who was able to attend and
we'll see you here again soon.
