What a wonderful way to end the 2001 series...with a 2nd annual show from a hometown favorite, Tim Flannery. He brought some of his friends, of course, Randi Driscoll, Dani Carroll, Dennis Caplinger, Tom Flannery and Jeff Berkley.
Tom Flannery started off the show with some of his own tunes including "Mackie Get Your Gun" and "Your Friends Love You." To get a jumpstart on the holiday season, Tom ended his set with a lovely interpretation of "Winter Wonderland." I followed Tom with a poem I had written inspired by some of the Flannery recording sessions I had been fortunate enough to attend, and welcomed out Tim Flannery and all his friends.
The gathered people, audience and musicians alike, got things rolling right away with an up-tempo tuned by Sharon Shannon, "Say You Love Me." Dennis Caplinger provided the fiddle parts which was appropriate since he had played the fiddle parts when he had performed with Sharon Shannon herself! What followed were songs that many have become familiar with like "Hickory Wind" and "Orphan Girl" as well as songs that will appear on the upcoming record such as "Son of a Coal Mining Man," "You Have My Word" and "When the Righteous Shall Come." Every song, whether new or familiar, was met with equal enthusiasm and the positivity that emanated from everyone making the music was nearly tangible.
After a short break, the gang returned to fill up every December moment with music. And this is where some of the friends got to show off their own talents with their own songs. Randi Driscoll performed "What Matters" and Jeff Berkley added "All Roads Lead to You." Dani Carroll joined Jeff on a song they had written together called "California Mountain Time." When Tim returned to join the group, they rounded out the set with a couple more new songs, "Waiting on a Friend" and "Farther Down the Road."
Before anyone could go anywhere, however, the people demanded more. Of course, Tim & friends were obliged and delivered with "Molly Graham" and then Jeff Berkley led the house in a roof-raising rendition of "This Land is Your Land."
I hope there's a 3rd annual Tim & friends!! Thanks
to everyone who made it to the house in 2001! Looking forward to seeing you
all again in 2002!
