Shows - June 8, 2000
Tim Easton, Kat Maslich, Dave Howard

A short spurt of rain cooled off the night outside, but inside the house at Meeting Grace, the crowd was warm and inviting to Kat Maslich, the first performer for the evening.
Kat may not have been a familiar name or face to folks first gathered that night, but by the end of the evening, she had found a permanent place in everyone's memory.  Though admitting to initial nervousness, she quickly became comfortable with the intimacy of the space and the attention of the guests.  Kat moved through her songs, letting the natural strength of her voice travel into every corner.  Being joined by Tim Easton on mandolin for "Two Days in October," a song about meeting people with big egos, Kat also continued to prove herself as a songwriter.  Kat ended her wonderful set with a cover of Lucinda Williams' "Greenville" and left everyone satisfied.

Next up was San Diego favorite, Dave Howard, joined by Jeff Berkley on djembe and guitar.  Dave's set was riddled with brilliance as he mixed old and new originals ("Annie," "Pieces of Me," "Something to Fall Back On") with excellent covers ("Ship of Fools," "In Your Eyes").  Known for his high energy and passionate live electric shows, Dave stayed true to form in the acoustic 'unplugged' vein and delivered a memorable and intense show for the attentive group.

For the last set of the night, Tim Easton took the floor and did not disappoint the folks.  Tim took advantage of the 'unplugged' element of the night and strolled about the stage area with his guitar, bringing the music even closer.  From the opening "Bitterroot Pass" to tunes from his CD like "Special 20" and "All the Pretty Girls Leave Town," Tim's rich voice kept the crowd captivated.  He even brought up his brothers to play guitar on a couple songs which was a special bonus for everyone.

To end the night, Tim called back Dave Howard and Jeff Berkley to join him.  Together, the trio performed the haunting "Long Black Veil" with Dave on guitar and lead vocal, Jeff on guitar and vocal and Tim on mandolin and vocal.  It was a powerful way to end an already extraordinary evening.
Thanks to everyone who made it for yet another superior night of music, warmth and grace.
