Bug Guts with Kit & Kaboodle

Who knew the secret of Kit & Kaboodle? The duo team of Kit Shickers and Tulip Kaboodle, who generously agreed to play prior to Bug Guts, were a welcome surprise to the crowd gathered for the show. Admittedly an act that only performs encores, those in attendance happily obliged. Strumming through a handful of original ditties including "Furball of Truth," "Sugarbear" and "Hello, Mr. Cookie," Kit & Kaboodle also indulged some covers including Woody Guthrie's "Oklahoma Hills" and Buck Owens' "Act Naturally." Reluctantly, Kit & Kaboodle bid a final thanks & goodnight to make way for Bug Guts.

Amidst guitars, various toys and musical instruments, Scott & Rosebud, aka Bug Guts, descended upon the crowd with their musical mastery and biting, sharp lyrics. "Sweat Shop," "Pickin' Em Up" (a Swamp Poets tune) and crowd favorite "Parental Advisory" were just some of the songs that helped build a special and electric atmosphere. That nearly tangible feeling was apparent at the end of "Cannabis Hammock," a tribute to San Francisco's Brownie Mary. As the last note was struck, the silence that followed held its own sustain and we were locked in quite a magical moment.

Other show highlights included when the dancing flower was turned on to show off its stuff for Bug Guts' rendition of Blondie's "Heart of Glass" with Scott on mandolin, followed by a tune dedicated to a good friend called "Whiskey & Biscuits." After a brief message from "U Buy Brand," Bug Guts rounded out the show with "A War on Drugs," a rockin' drum bucket version of the Ramones' "Beat on the Brat" and a song written to honor Julia Butterfly Hill.

The combination of tight guitar work and perfect vocal symmetry made this an unforgettable night. Thanks...
