For the first time since the inception of the series (as far as I can remember), I wasn't quite ready to let people in when 7:30 pm (doors open time) rolled around! Within 10 minutes, there were close to 15 prompt Deborah Liv Johnson fans waiting patiently on the porch. Soon the house was full of music lovers waiting for the show to begin.
Before the main performer, Deborah Liv Johnson, came on, it was time for the sold out crowd to get a listen of Dani Carroll. Her strong voice did not disappoint and she certainly made some new fans. We all look forward to the release of her 2nd album, from which she previewed some songs. Joined by her friend, co-writer and producer, Jeff Berkley, on three songs including "Nothing Without You," Carroll concluded her set with the destined-for-radio-success tune, "Ben."
After the Meeting Grace version of the a quick 7th inning stretch, Deborah Liv Johnson came before members of her dedicated fan-base as well as some new faces. With an easy warm & inviting style, Johnson let everyone in on bits of her life. Leaving the following week for a homecoming trip to her birthplace of Tanzania, Africa (her first trip back since she & her family left when she was 7 months old!) She periodically shared information about her upcoming trip including items from a list of "don'ts" and how she's personally been experiencing the side effects of the anti-malarial medicine she must take. But the main attraction, of course, were her songs. Her clear & bright voice rang through the rooms seemingly without effort as she offered "Don't Fence Me In," love songs and a beautiful song to her homeland, "Home to Tanzania."
After a short break for guests to freshen up, get more treats and stretch a bit, Johnson returned with what she described as her version of the Lord's Prayer. That led to a bluesy little number inspired by the one and only Big Kitchen (with Judy the Beauty herself in attendance!). More blues, more sweet voice, more warmth of human kindness, more Deborah Liv Johnson.
These nights are an incredible testament to the power
and grace that can be found in an evening of music. See you next time!
