Sink or Swim/Water Poem # 1

The river's on the rise

swift and gentle like the breeze

it swallows everything but sky

it suffocates the trees

I turn my back too often

fearful of the oncoming storm

its unpredictable nature

but tonight perhaps

I will dream of drowning

and surviving

Here comes the water

Should I struggle or give in

And does it even matter

if I sink, if I sink or swim

Now there ain't no more higher ground

As far as I can see

My heart begins to pound

Y'know it's gettin' tough to breathe

I might still close my eyes

as you help bring waves

of tenderness over me

I gasp to stay above them

to not give in

because the surrender

is too tempting

I may never get back

Here comes the water

Should I struggle or give in

And does it even matter

if I sink, if I sink or swim

Maybe as a ghost or an angel

I will be able to swim

but this time I drown

and remain woman

Your love is like the ocean

it's beautiful and dangerous

a tempting magic potion

and not enough is just too much

Here comes the water

Should I struggle or give in

And does it even matter

if I sink, if I sink or swim
