The Soul of The Stars: Here we are… again

I do not own the characters of Outlaw Star, but I wished I did. I do own
characters that were not seen in the anime Outlaw Star.
This was the tenth time he had
checked on her. Jim wondered when she would finally wake up. She was so out of
it the day before. After they had gotten into the spaceport she kind of just
disappeared. When he had found her, Gene was yelling at her for destroying the
Outlaw Star’s engines. He had to admit the engines were toasted and looked like
melted cheese on a hot summer’s day. Kat said nothing and began to walk away
muttering something. He had tried to call her back but she wasn’t listening.
When he had looked down he noticed a red trail, and he knew it had to be her,
who else could it be. He and Gene ran after her. He
was almost afraid they wouldn’t find her in time. It wasn’t that hard to find
her, crowds of people were gaping at her, and some lady was screaming for an
ambulance. He had noticed she walked as if she were on a rode only she could
see. Gene had gotten to her first and twirled her around. The sight of her made
him, Jim, want to cry. Kat’s eyes were glazed over; she was in some sort of
trance like state. He had tried to get her to come with them but she tried hard
to get away from them. He was thankful that Gene had a strong grip on her.
That’s when it happened, she mouthed something he couldn’t make out and her
eyes closed and she went limp. That was early yesterday, he remembered the time
exactly,
Melfina
stirred the pot. She just didn’t understand. Why did they bring her here?
Weren’t they afraid that Kat would kill them as soon as she got better? Melfina was. She just couldn’t understand. Melfina felt that Kat was some kind of monster, but Kat did
save Jim. Still… “Lunch is ready!”
Aisha,
as always, was the first at the table, “Smells good.”
“Gene?” Melfina
asked.
“Yeah.”
“Can I ask you something?” Melfina didn’t know if this was a good time, but she needed
a reason.
“Sure, go ahead.” Gene wondered
what could Melfina be so
hesitant to ask about. She should know that she could ask him just about
anything. Even though they weren’t in a romantic relationship they were still
close-weren’t they?
“Why didn’t you just take Kat to
the hospital? Jim told me she still hasn’t woken up.”
“Because
hospitals ask too many questions. They would want to know why she
has a large gash on the back of her head and why she has a hole in her
shoulder. I’m not in the mood to answer questions, and we need to lay low for
awhile.” Gene explained.
“If you’re worried about her
dying, don’t be.” Suzuka said, and continued to
finish her meal. Kat had lost large amounts of blood, and she had been the one
that bandaged her wounds. Suzuka had found something
very interesting, but she would keep it to herself, for now.
“Unfamiliar ceiling.” she
whispered. What had happened to her? Kat looked at her bandages. Was she in a
hospital? Kat stood, and slowly walked to the mirror at the far end of the
room. She removed her bandages and examined her wounds. Whoever dressed her
wounds did a good job. Kat heard speaking and decided to investigate.
“More please.” Aisha said handing Melfina her
bowl.
“Suppose she’s in a coma.” Jim
voiced.
Aisha
didn’t like Jim’s new attachment to the bitch. “I don’t know why you care so
much. She’ll wake up…”
Jim wasn’t listening to what Aisha was saying. A smile spread across his face.
Aisha
stopped in the middle of her sentence. Was what she saying making Jim that
happy? “See Jim…” Aisha began and then noticed he
wasn’t paying attention to not one word she was saying. She quickly noticed
that everyone else was staring toward her direction. Did she have something on
her face?
She was standing right there-Kat
was standing right in front of him in one of Gene’s shirts, which was sizes too big. “You’re finally up!” Jim said happily. He
started to walk to her.
Kat only stared at him. No
matter how hard she tried she couldn’t get away from them. Maybe it was
destiny? Or was it fate? Kat still couldn’t tell the difference.
“How do you feel? Are you
hungry? Do you wanna sit?” Jim asked fast with a
smile that reached his eyes. Jim was happy she was finally up and moving. He
had been worried he would never see her stare at him of call him ugly. Jim
started to laugh a little and tears formed in his eyes.
“Even if you are happy you
shouldn’t cry. It is unmanly, and you should leave all unmanly things for
Captain Shit-Face.” Her tone was even, maybe it also hinted to slight humor.
Gene was about to open his mouth
to retort, but then quickly shut it when he saw what happened next.
Jim embraced her and buried his
face into her shirt.
Kat’s arms automatically encircled
him. She felt a smile ready to plant itself on her face but forced it away.
Gene looked from Jim to Kat. Kat
had returned Jim’s embrace but there was no emotion on her face. Gene, at that
point, wanted to smack her, for Jim’s sake. Didn’t she feel? Why was she so
indifferent? “Give some indication.” Gene whispered so only he could hear.
Suddenly, Kat got the strangest
feeling. One moment she felt warm and the next she felt cold, alone. Where was
this other feeling coming from? It was dark and threatened to consume her. She
couldn’t breathe. Kat closed her eyes for an instant and saw gigantic hands.
These gigantic hands held her pulling her closer, and she was fusing with these
gigantic hands. Her whole being seemed to be melting away. “Jim, let go.”
Jim only shook his head and held
her tighter.
The tighter he held her, the
faster the process of her melting into the hands got. It was burning her skin,
and she couldn’t get out. “Jim…I…I need you to let go so I can take a bath.”
As soon as Jim let go the
horrible feeling Kat felt stop. “I…I’ll show you to the bathroom.” Jim said
looking up at her suddenly thankful he grew a bit.
She looked down at him. Was that
feeling caused by him? But how and why? It had to be
something else that caused it. Jim had a good heart. “Thanks. Do you know where
I can find my small blue case?”
Jim nodded and went to fetch the
object.
“Don’t you have anything to
say?” Suzuka asked.
Kat stared at them for awhile,
“Thank you for taking care of my wounds and keeping me safe.” she bowed.
They looked at her. They could
tell she actually meant what she said. It was the first time she showed
respect.
“Even though it were your ugly asses who got me into this in the first
place.” She couldn’t let them believe she respected them or anything. Kat
almost laughed but kept her face emotionless.
“If you want, I’ll be more than
happy to place you in the same position you were in before.” Aisha said standing up and cracking her knuckles.
Kat narrowed her eyes, “I would
like to see you try.” In an instant she was in front of Aisha.
“If you can catch me that is.” By jumping, Kat
disappeared and reappeared in front of the refrigerator. It would be a good
work out if she spared with the Ctarl-Ctarl.
“I’m a Ctarl-Ctarl.
You dare insult me!”
Kat was feeling better already,
“You’re already an insult. I’m just simply pointing it out, Aisha
Ursula Clan-Clan.”
“How did you know…” Aisha began to ask. No one knew
her middle name.
“Your full
name? Just something I picked up.” She was having fun.
Jim returned with Kat’s small
blue case and noticed everyone was tense. “I got it.”
Kat casually walked to him. “So,
where’s this bathroom you speak of.”
Jim noticed her tone had
changed. It was cheerful. He knew she wasn’t that bad. “Right this way.” Jim
smiled.
They day had gone by pretty
fast. There was a lot of excitement including Kat burning her clothes, saying
she wasn’t wearing anything Nature’s Freak washed and touched that belonged to
her. Kat and Aisha had been glaring at each other non-stop
especially when Kat called Aisha Mutant Feline. Then
there was Kat and Suzuka. Suzuka
ordered Kat to help them clean. Kat then picked up a gallon of water throwing
it on Suzuka saying the place was now much cleaner
than it was before.
It was now dinner time, “Kat,
aren’t you going to eat something.” Jim noticed she hadn’t eaten all day.
“No. Nature’s Freak cooked it.”
Kat said putting on the stereo.
“Stop calling Melfina Nature’s Freak!” Gene screamed. He would not have
anyone making fun of Melfina. Kat had bothered
everyone today. He wished she was still in the bed upstairs.
“Whatever you say Captain Shit-Face.”
Kat said as she began to bop her head to the music.
Gene banged his hands hard on
the table, and marched to her.
He was staring at the back of
her head when she said, “Don’t you remember our little run in at Blue Heaven or
do I have to drill your memory.” Kat abruptly turned to face him. She stared at
him with cold eyes, which made Gene stop in his tracks. Gene mumbled something
and went to sit down for dinner. Kat turned around and continued bopping her
head to the music.
“Pathetic.” Suzuka
said when Gene sat down.
“Shut-up Suzuka.” Gene said as he stuffed his face.
Jim held his laughter. When he
thought about it he now knew why Proteus laughed so much, because it was
actually funny.
Kat stared at Jim. He was
catching on. “You should laugh a little louder Jim, so you ugly friends can
hear you. They are very ridiculous.”
Jim got glares. “I’m sorry.” he
said sheepishly.
This was rich. Kat knew she
caused a life time of trouble for one day. Kat sighed silently. Her memories of
what happened after her talk with Sisko was still a
blank. She hoped she didn’t do anything stupid, like cry her eyes out. Kat
turned off the stereo. Enough play time, there was work to do. She got her
boots on, grabbed her jacket, and her small blue case.
Jim watched Kat head for the
door. “Hey Kat, where are you going?”
It couldn’t hurt to tell them, “When
we went into ether mode it might have ruined the Outlaw Star’s engines.”
Didn’t she know? He had screamed
on her about them. “Well, they’re beyond repair. They look like melted cheese.
I hope you know you’ll be paying for their replacements.” Gene said.
“Oh? Well, the Outlaw Star’s
engines are one of a kind. You’re not going to find them on any market. You do
know that don’t you. You are the Captain.”
“So, what now?
If we can’t use the Outlaw Star, how are we going to find Uriel?
This is all your fault!” Aisha
accused.
“You’re point.” Kat received a
glare from Aisha. Deciding to make a clean get away,
“I’m gone.”
Before anyone could say anything
else, they heard the door close.

Thoughts: Kat is a rather rude character to call people names, wouldn’t you
say? But I thought it was funny how she burned her clothes because Nature… I
mean Melfina washed them. ^_^ I really do love all the characters of
Outlaw Star, so please don’t sue me or anything for calling them names!! ~~Thanks SailorRai@aol.com
