Disclaimer: I do not own Gene, Jim, Melfina, Aisha, and Suzuka, who are the characters of Outlaw Star. However, I do own the characters of For The Soul of The Stars, Kat, Jaguar, Rongo and many others.

It had been some hours since she had seen either Gene or Kat. Suzuka hoped Gene did the right thing by following that girl. She didn’t want to admit it, not even to herself, but Kat scared her. Kat didn’t scare Suzuka to the point to fear her. Suzuka didn’t know whether to consider her friend or foe. Kat seemed heartless, but at the same time she wasn’t. Maybe the only reason why Suzuka was scared of Kat was because she confused her.

This situation brought many other questions into the light. First, why was this Rongo person after Jim? Just like Donte, Rongo knew Kat even though it was by another name. In both cases Kat saved Jim. Suzuka thought about the events, did Kat actually know Uriel? As Rock had done, was Kat trying to protect Uriel? If that was so, was Jim Uriel? Then again, was Kat planning something against them by using Jim? Suzuka sighed in frustration. So many questions were still unanswered.

                The door bell rang.

Aisha ran to the door. She wasn’t about to let the dead guy pass her. Even if he was already dead she was going to kill him again for trying to hurt Jim. “Who is it?”

                “Kat.”

What was she doing here? Aisha was sure the little girl wouldn’t show her face. Well, she had hoped Kat wouldn’t show her face. Aisha opened the door and looked at the girl. “Well, where’s Gene?”

Kat ignored Aisha and walked pass her. She was in no mood to be bothered by the Ctarl-Ctarl. If Gene followed her and couldn’t keep up that was his business.

“Hey, I asked you a question?” Aisha shouted. This girl had some nerve. “Where’s Gene? Did you kill him? Aisha wouldn’t put it pass her.

Kat continued to ignore her, and looked around the room looking for one person.

Aisha growled, “How dare you ignore me!!” She was a Ctarl-Ctarl. No human could just push her aside and ignore her. “I’m talking to you.” Aisha growled in anger. Aisha was about to grab Kat by the shoulders.

She really wasn’t in the mood. If she had to teach the Ctarl-Ctarl a lesson she would. Kat raised her Ki slightly.

Aisha’s hand was an inch away from Kat’s shoulder when she found herself being knocked against the closed door. “What the hell just happened?” How did Kat do that? Aisha really wanted to know.

Aisha, are you okay?” Melfina asked coming to her friend’s aid. In her eyes Kat was truly a monster. So what if she saved Jim, her attitude and personality were those of a monster. Melfina was sure of that, and wouldn’t be a bit surprised if she had been working with Donte and Rongo all along.

Suzuka had been watching from the corner. She had to admit Aisha should have kept her anger in check. Suzuka noticed Kat used her Ki, and was a bit surprised she could control it well. However, Suzuka now had Kat’s Ki memorized.

Gene suddenly came through the door out of breath. He would have had a taxi followed Kat, but he didn’t have any money. Plus, he didn’t expect Kat to have a motorcycle. This afternoon, she had run all the way to the hotel. He almost got killed following her back here, he had to bus hop just to try and keep up. Gene looked around and found Aisha on the floor. “What happened here?”

“Kat did this, Gene. We don’t need Kat. She’s a monster. We can find Uriel on our own if we work as a team.” Melfina said. Her insights were mostly a plead for Gene to reconsider their current standings with Kat. From the moment she had met Kat her friends had gotten hurt. Kat was to blame for their pain.

Gene knew how Melfina felt. Kat was like a virus, which went out of its way to make people sick. But Rock had said Kat knew. He needed her help even if he was sick of her, and she had already agreed to help them. “Melfina, it’s going to be okay. Aisha, are you okay?”

“Yeah. That bitch can’t hurt me. I’m a Ctarl-Ctarl!” Aisha said standing.

Kat had tuned their babbling out. She wanted to speak to Jim. Kat almost smiled as she watched Jim walk into the room. He had great timing.

“I heard Kat’s name being mention.” Jim said. He wondered what she had done now.

                “Let’s go Jim.” Kat said.

“Go. Where?” Jim asked. It’s not that he didn’t trust her, it was…

“Yeah, you and me.” Kat smiled.

Jim was in awe as he watched her smile. She was smiling at him, Jim. Jim smiled in return. Had she finally let him into the secret world she let Hilda, Proteus, and seemingly many others share with her? “Sure. Let me get my shoes on.” Jim bounced away happy forgetting his earlier question.

Kat smiled to herself. He seemed happy. This was exactly what Jim needed. She would make sure to keep his mind off his problems.

“Where are you taking him?” Gene asked.

Kat had forgotten they were still in the room. Must they bother her?

“Well, where are you taking him?” Gene asked impatiently. He wasn’t about to let Jim go out where that monster Rongo, could get to him, and he didn’t trust Kat.

Kat didn’t turn around to address him. She just-just didn’t want to be bothered.

Jim came back, “So, where are we going?”

She smiled. Not only would this help Jim, it would help her too. She needed to get her mind off some things too. “I thought you’d be interested in accompanying me to the Science Expo. It’s really fun. I think you’ll like it.” Kat hoped Jim would say yes.

“I’ve been trying to go, but they would only let members buy tickets, and membership was too costly and the tickets weren’t cheap either.” Jim explained. He couldn’t wait.

“Good. Let’s hit the road. Oh yeah, you’ll need to bring a jacket. It’s by the shore this year, and besides you should always wear a jacket when you’re on a motorcycle.” Kat smiled as she saw pure pleasure dance in Jim’s eyes. She headed for the door.

“Jim, don’t go. Dinner is almost ready.” Melfina pleaded. Suppose Kat did something to him and her suspicions of Kat working with Rongo were true.

“I really want to go.” Jim said.

“You’re not going Jim. Who knows what could happen out there! You’re staying here, so we can protect you.” Aisha said.

“Jim, if I hadn’t shot Rongo with my caster who knows what he could done.” Gene said.

“Don’t think that any of you can help him. You are all weak against Rongo. You’re all worthless to Jim.” Kat sat staring at the door when she said this. She knew Rongo was infused with immense power. She would protect Jim to her fullest capability. That meant she would use all her resources if she had to.

Jim watched as guilt and pain flash through the eyes of his friends. He knew what Kat said had hurt them, and he didn’t want them to think they were worthless to him. Why had Kat said that? Did she really dislike them that much? “Kat, can’t they come with us?”

“Is this what you want?” Kat asked without looking at him.

He hoped she wouldn’t hate him for it, “Yes. I want them to come with us. Can you pull some strings and get them in.” Jim said.

“Sure Jim, but they’re going to have to find the means of getting there. They can’t all fit on my bike. Come on let’s go.”

Jim smiled. “Well, let’s go.” he said signaling everyone.

Gene watched as Kat gave Jim a helmet. Did she really mean what she had said? He couldn’t brush off an uneasy feeling Rongo was out there and after Jim.

A figure in a dark street corner smiled to himself. This was his chance. He was at first suspicious of his employers that had risen him from the dead, but right now he could care less. He now could kill Hellfire-no Kat as a bonus. But he mustn’t forget to not get sidetracked like what’s his name, Donte. All he had to do was kill the bitch and get the kid then, he would get his reward. Simple really. The figure started laughing as he walked towards his new destination.

He was enjoying himself. Jim was a bit surprised that Kat behaved herself. She didn’t, not once, say anything rude to his friends, even though Aisha and Gene were purposely trying to get her upset. Kat was paying full attention to him and him only. Jim loved this attention. He would ask questions and she would answer. He would crack jokes and she would laugh. It seemed as if they were the only two in the world. Jim blushed at the thought.

“Jim, come on, the fireworks are starting!” Kat smiled leading him toward the benches. She found herself smiling often tonight. Her mind was at rest. Kat watched the fireworks with a brilliant smile, and she found Jim staring at her. “What?”

“Nothing.” Jim smiled. Was this what Kat was really like?

He was jealous. He couldn’t believe it, he, Harry, was jealous of a little kid who was seven years younger than he was. He was nineteen, Kat was eighteen, and that little pipsqueak was only twelve. Who did he think he was? Harry’s eyes flashed with anger. Not once had Kat paid so much attention to him like she did tonight toward Jim. Harry stood from where he sat and began to walk towards Jim. A figure suddenly descended in front of him and shoved him back.

“MacDougall, you should really keep a leash on the young one.” the man in black said looking at Harry in disgust.

Ronald looked at the figure. He made sure Harry was alright before addressing the newcomer. “Harry sometimes gets carried away with his emotions. It will not happen again, isn’t that right Harry?”

“Yes.” Harry had been reprimanded so many times for getting carried away by his emotions. He couldn’t let his brother, Ron, down. ‘There would be another time to get the pipsqueak.’

“Well good. I will not have you two acting out alone and unplanned again. Besides, that man over there beat us to the punch.” Jaguar smiled as he watched a huge man approach Kat.

She felt strong hand grab her shoulders. She should have known she wouldn’t be able to stay in a state of homeostasis for long. Kat flipped off the bench using both legs to kick the figure in the face.

“Is that how you treat an old friend, Kat?” the figure smiled.

“Keep dreaming Rongo.” Kat said getting in a defense stance.

Suzuka watched as the girl stood in a defense stance. She knew that fighting style. “The Shadow’s Blade.”

                “The what?!” Aisha asked.

“It’s an ancient killing style. One move could rip a limb or two from one’s opponent.” Suzuka said. Where had Kat learnt this lost technique? She had tried to find the lost technique to improve her own skills but no one she had met knew of it.

He watched her. It was the same stance she used to kill him. Rongo had studied the moves Kat had used to kill him. He wasn’t about to be embarrassed by this girl again, “It won’t work.” he said blocking. He had no choice but to know those moves. They had haunted him for what felt like an eternity.

Kat knew the reason why her first level killing moves wouldn’t work. She didn’t have to ask why; it made sense that in hell he was probably haunted by her killing him over and over again. Kat ran fast pass his left side then back, on his right. Kat turned around standing in a defense stance as both his right and left arms fell. “A move for you to study when I send you back to hell.” Kat said in a monotone with her usual emotionless expression.

“You little bitch!” Rongo screamed in pain. Just because he had come back from the dead didn’t mean he was immune to pain.

He knew she was good. To study The Shadow’s Blade technique took a lot of dedication. Jaguar smiled. This show was good, and he wasn’t about to interfere unless Rongo was about to kill his Kitty. His masters sent Rongo for the boy, nothing more, nothing less.

“I’m tired of playing this game with you!! Take this!!” Rongo shouted. A dark glow emitted from his body. His chest seemed to open as tentacles sped forward toward Kat.

She stood there. She couldn’t move. Kat wanted to scream as the tentacles coiled itself around her body, but she didn’t scream, shout for help, or cry in pain and fright.

He hadn’t seen anything like this before. Gene then looked down at his partner. Jim wasn’t there. Gene looked a few inches forward. Jim was walking toward the battle. “Jim!” Gene shouted running to the boy. Gene jerked him back, “What the hell…?” Jim’s eyes were black.

“Must consume. Bring to master.” Jim said in a trance.

What was happening? Was the fight between Kat and Rongo affecting Jim? “Jim, snap out of it!!” Gene shouted as he shook the blonde-hair boy by his arms.

After Thoughts: Suzuka’s thoughts about the situation have thus made their way into this chapter. Also, this chapter shows the growing relationship of Jim and Kat, and it also shows a little bit of Kat’s other personality. For those who are wondering, Harry does have a thing for Kat, but not an obsessive thing like he had for Melfina. Harry has grown, as a person, from the end of the Outlaw OAV to now, in my fanfic. Now for the big question, Is Jim really Uriel? What does it all mean? Just continue reading to find out all the answers. I want to thank all the people who have sent me e-mail with their comments and questions. It means a lot to me as an author/artist. Thank you!! ~~ Lynderia
