were not in the OAV are mine.
He felt his brother’s muscles tense
under his hand. Ronald, too, almost felt pity for the girl. Whatever Rongo had sent to attack her was working. “Harry, you can’t
do anything.” Had he said this to calm his brother or himself?
“I understand Ron.” Harry did
understand. They couldn’t help Kat unless they were ordered by their employer.
Harry looked up at Jaguar in the same disgust Jaguar had looked at him earlier.
Suzuka
had tried to help the girl, but nothing she did seemed to stop the attack. She
watched as the darkness made a cocoon around Kat’s body. “Let her go!” Suzuka shouted. Even if she didn’t like her, Kat didn’t
deserve such a fate.
Rongo
laughed as the darkness from his soul continued its attack on Kat. “Not until I
hear her scream. Not until she pleads for her very existence.” He was enjoying
himself. When he was done, all that was left was the boy.
“Jim, please snap out of it!” Melfina cried. He was scaring her. His eyes were black, an
inky black. Tears ran from Melfina’s eyes.
“Watch him Melfina.
Don’t let him out of your sight.” Gene said as he pulled out his caster. He was
going to stop Rongo right now. Gene held a special
caster bullet in his hand, and loaded it into his weapon. He just hoped it
would stop the monster.
Aisha
growled in anger. She couldn’t get near him. Rongo
continued to laugh. Aisha didn’t know why she was
trying to help Kat. The girl was nothing but trouble-for all of them. But she
knew if she didn’t she couldn’t look herself in the mirror.
“Come now Ctarl-Ctarl,
you’re just tickling me. Fine, you win. I think Kat had enough.” Rongo said. The tentacles stopped, but Kat was still
wrapped in a cocoon of darkness. “You can have your friend back.” As soon as Rongo said this, the tentacles came back with full force.
He didn’t know what was going on. Who was controlling his dark aura?
“You liar!!”
Aisha shouted as the darkness seemed to grow.
“It’s not me.” Rongo shouted as his whole body turned into one large dark
mist.
This wasn’t good. Suzuka could sense the powerful evil from the dark mist.
She was trapped. She was scared.
Kat didn’t know what to do. Her parents had told her to always stay away from
the darkness. Did they know that this was going to happen? Most importantly she
had to stay away form the darkness of light, but this definitely wasn’t the
darkness of light. The darkness she was locked in was trying to consumer her.
Kat knew what she had to do.
“Stop it!!” Gene screamed at the
mist.
“Make me,” came
a voice from within the mist. The voice was dark and deeper than Rongo’s.
Gene fired his caster. A black
ball shot out toward the mist.
“No you don’t.” the mist said as
he used the cocoon as a shield against the attack.
Gene’s faced turned to one of
fear. He didn’t want to kill Kat. “Oh, God.”
The cocoon, which was black,
transformed into one of white. The black ball hit the cocoon full impact.
Gene braced himself for the pain
that should have followed after using a special caster shell. But the pain
never came. Gene looked around. Kat was on the ground unmoving. “Kat?”
It seemed as if she heard him.
Kat pushed herself of the floor. She faced the black mist. “I won’t be needing
this.” she said as she threw the caster shell toward Gene.
Gene caught it, and looked at
it. The caster shell was the same one he had used. What happened?
Kat drew out her dagger. It
would look less suspicious is she used it.
“I’m more powerful than you. You
will have no choice but to yield.” the dark mist said.
Kat’s eyes glazed over. Little
blue specks of energy rose from the ground and surrounded her. The dagger she
held grew into a sword with a fiery blade. “I will destroy the darkness.” Kat
slashed the air, not making contact with the enemy in front of her.
“There is one you cannot
destroy.” The dark mist screamed in pain and turned into a ball of fire. It
then extinguished itself. The battle was over.
Five figures stood in a circle
in the shadows.
“So, Uriel
is there?”
“Yes. Did you not feel it?”
“Yes. But is that Griffin Starwind’s
son?”
“Yes. Does this change
anything?”
“No. It does not.”
He had memorized her Ki and that was definitely not her Ki.
Jaguar turned around and faced his new acquaintances, “Get some rest. I will
contact you with orders.” Jaguar disappeared in a state of confusion. Did Kat
use magic?
Suzuka
looked at Kat. Kat’s sword was now a dagger, the blue specks of energy were
gone, and her eyes were normal again. What was that? Suzuka
had memorized Kat’s Ki earlier, but that-whatever
that was-wasn’t Kat’s Ki. The only logical
explanation was the use of magic. But why hadn’t it felt like magic, it
definitely wasn’t Tao Magic. Suzuka thought about it,
the only time she sensed Tao Magic was with Donte, Rongo, and Jaguar. Was there a new type of magic?
“Jim, you’re back to normal!!” Melfina shouted overjoyed as she hugged Jim.
Jim hugged back confused. What
had just happened? Where were Kat and Rongo?
Upon hearing this, Kat walked
over to the two. Why would Jim return to normal? “Jim, look at me.” Kat
ordered. Maybe she could see what Melfina was talking
about.
“What?” Jim asked.
Kat knelt down and held his face
in both hands making sure he faced her. Kat stared into Jim’s eyes. She saw
something and it wasn’t magic. Whatever it was continued to hurriedly go back
to wherever it came from. Then she saw his heart, which was filled with
kindness, joy, and love. Not one inch of darkness to be found. Kat sighed in
defeat. Was that thing Uriel, or was it something
else? Kat stood looking at the now un-colorful sky.
“Did you have fun, Jim?” Kat
asked.
He didn’t know what was going on
but, “Yes.” Jim answered.
“Lets get you home.” Kat smiled
looking down at him.
Jim smiled, “Yeah, and Kat,
thanks.”
They all tiredly walked to the
door. Gene pulled out a key to open the door. He had thought after the battle Kat
would offer to pay for their ride home, but she didn’t and no none had money and they ended up walking home. She had some
nerve.
Walking in, the lights in the
kitchen were on.
Gene walked in and took a seat
next to the young girl that was busy typing away.
“How could you just leave us?
You could have paid for our ride. Selfish bitch!!” Aisha screamed as she walked towards Kat. She was about to
turn Kat around to face her. As soon as Aisha’s hand
touched the chair she went flying out the kitchen.
Suzuka
shook her head. She knew Aisha was tired and hungry
but she really needed to keep her anger in check. Suzuka
again felt Kat’s Ki and it had not change. She took a
seat near the girl.
Melfina
sat in the seat across from Kat.
They all sat in silence for a
while until, “Are you going to continue and ignore us like when we were at the
Science Expo?” Gene shouted in anger. He wanted some answers. It was time for
Kat to give them some answers. When he had met her for the first time, she felt
familiar then, when he found out she was Hilda’s partner he thought maybe it
was because she was Hilda’s partner and she acted like Hilda, but now that
feeling she was familiar still lingered. Why was Kat so familiar to him? Who
was she? “Answer me.” Gene shouted. He hand went to touch her small blue case
which was connected to the small computer. Gene regretted it and found himself
against the kitchen wall.
“Gene!” Melfina
yelled ready to get up from her seat.
“Don’t, I’m fine.” Gene said
walking back picking up the chair and sat. “Fine, continue with the silent
treatment.” He folded his arms and frowned.
“You bitch!! And to think I was
trying to save you!!” Aisha screamed coming back into
the kitchen. She sat next to Melfina. “Ungrateful.”
Was Kat even listening to her? Aisha frowned. Why was
she so detached?
There was a moment of silence.
Kat began to place her hand held computer into her small blue case. “Now that
everyone is settled,” Kat wasn’t looking them, she kept her gaze on the table, “Do you believe Jim is Uriel?”
Aisha
was confused, “How can Jim be Uriel?” The thought did
pass her mind more than once. It would account for those attacks on him.
“How the hell am I supposed to
know that? My genius can only go so far. Anyway, the name Uriel
means the flame of ultimate power. Ultimate power meaning
God, which is represented by a dragon. Flame could represent the heart,
passion love, I’m not sure. And I would guess Jim would be perfect candidate.
He has beautiful heart, you don’t see that everyday. If Jim has this ultimate
power it would make sense why The Dark Stars are after him.” Something was
still not registering in her mind. Kat pushed it aside and decided to think
about it later. “This is all a hypothesis. And it’s the best I could come up
with. Take it or leave it. I couldn’t care less.”
What he had heard made sense,
“So, Jim could be Uriel?” Gene said.
“That is what I said. Do you
have shit for brains also besides having shit for a face, Captain Shit-Face.” Kat said.
Gene banged his fist on the
table in anger. “Can’t you stop it with the comments already? I’m trying my
best to try and like you but it’s really hard!” He really wanted to like her.
He had watched her tonight-watched the way she acted with Jim. He was almost
jealous by how much attention she gave Jim.
“I’m not here for you to like
me, or try to like me. I don’t like working with ugly people. I really don’t.
You have a captain who looks like shit, a mutant feline-from a race of felines
who transform into dogs, a bio android who’s a freak, and last but not least an
assassin who, in my opinion, an ogre. And so, what if I act like a monster, if
you can’t handle it you can continue to cry about it.” Kat said looking at Melfina.
Melfina’s
eyes were rimmed with tears. “Go ahead Nature’s Freak. My opinion of you can’t
get any lower.” Kat said looking at her with unfeeling eyes. Melfina broke down into sobs.
She had to. Kat knew it was mean
but she had to-she had to push them away. Kat suddenly felt pain in her left
jaw. It was Suzuka.
“You have no right to say such
filthy thing about people you don’t even know. You wear this cold outer shell
to protect a scared little girl inside. Making up such childish names proves
I’m right. The reason why people see an innocent girl when they look at you and
not an eighteen year old adult is because you are a child. And farther more I
am not an ogre.” Suzuka said. Sometimes, when she
looked at Kat she truly did see a child. A lost child.
It was true, she supposed. “Big statement coming from the Ogre Lady herself. I don’t
remember having a sheet wrapped ogre for a mother. So I guess I can do this.”
Kat got up and punched Suzuka in the left jaw, “A
blow for a blow. Wanna play?”
Blood trickled down the side of Suzuka’s mouth. “Suzy, are you okay?” Aisha
asked in concern.
Melfina,
still crying, got up to get a cloth and ice.
“Can’t answer can you?” Kat
taunted. She regretted doing this to them. They must be tired of her insulting
them but it was necessary. They wouldn’t think twice on bothering her and would
want her to leave.
Kat watched as Suzuka sent her the glare of death. “Is that supposed to
scare me? You have more to say don’t you, well too bad.”
Aisha
was ready to pounce on Kat. How dare she treat Suzy like that!
“Aisha,
don’t.” Gene said calmly.
“But…she…Suzuka…”
Aisha said in anger.
“He knows I could kill all of
you if I felt like it. Anyway, my job is done. I helped in finding Uriel, and now you must do your job and protect him. See-ya!” Kat said as she tapped Suzuka’s
jaw.
“Good riddance to the hellish
bitch!” Suzuka said in anger. She didn’t want to deal
with this child anymore.
Kat picked her small blue case
and headed for the exit.
Gene stood, “You’re not going
anywhere.”
Why would he want her to stay?
Did he like being insulted? Kat continued to walk.
Gene raised his caster loading
it with the shell Kat thrown back at him. He aimed it at Kat.
She heard something charging.
She turned around, and there was a flash of light.
Did he finally snap? “Gene?” Melfina didn’t think he would fire a caster shell at Kat.
Gene didn’t answer. He braced
himself for pain, but, again, none came. What was going on here? Gene walked
toward Kat and lifted her by the collar of her jacket carrying her into the
kitchen. She was really light. He threw her into the chair she was previously
sitting in. “Why aren’t you dead?”
Kat didn’t answer. She looked
down at the table.
Gene roughly raised her head to
look at him. He saw ice in her eyes but continued to stare. He tried to look
pass the ice-she was familiar. “Who are you?”
Kat raised her Ki in response. This bounced him backward. “There’s your
answer. Such an idiot.” She got up and left. This time without looking back.
