Jim’s hands continued to grip the small girl’s shoulders. “There’s no escape!” the dark voice laughed.

Twinkle continued to hiss, and he jumped onto Jim’s face and tried to make an attempt to bite his nose. Twinkle suddenly crashed onto the floor unconscious.

“Twinkle!!” Katrina screamed in pain. What was this thing? Where had the boy, Jim, gone to? He had just disappeared. Katrina continued to scream in pain.

Aisha tried to jerk Jim off of Katrina but meet an opposite wall.

Tears started to fall from Katrina’s eyes. It hurt so much, she wanted it to stop.

Proteus pinched the back of Jim’s neck. Jim fell onto the floor unconscious. He had learned that from Kat. Proteus felt a sense of pride. He looked at Katrina who had crashed to her knees. She was still crying. “It’s okay.” Proteus said kneeling next to her.

Katrina jumped onto him and wrapped her small arms around his neck and cried.

Gene sat trying to figure out what happened yesterday. Between Kat and The Dark Stars, and that thing inside of Jim, and Katrina, he didn’t know which was more confusing. When he had tried to make sure she was alright, Katrina began to cry harder. He had already messed up with her. He must really have bad luck with any female. Gene inwardly laughed at his own joke. It was lunch time, and Gene decided to get something to eat before he had a nervous break down.

“You should wake her Proteus.” Melfina said.

“I did, but she fell back asleep.” Proteus said. Katrina reminded him of Kat so much. From the way she smiled, to the way she slept.

“It’s unhealthy for her to sleep so much. She’s been sleeping since yesterday evening.” Melfina said sternly. She knew Proteus wanted to keep Katrina safe but this wasn’t the way. It was weird too, Melfina knew of all Katrina’s bad habits, her likes, dislikes, and other stuff like that.

Gene came into the kitchen and found everyone eating except Melfina and Proteus who were fighting about Katrina. “I’ll wake her up then.”

Like a breeze, the small girl in question came running into the kitchen. “Proteus!!” she smiled.

“Hi there. We were just about to wake you up.” Proteus smiled. He placed her on his lap. “By the way, how old are you?”

“I’m three and three-fourths.” Katrina said proudly.

“Okay. Are you hungry?” Proteus asked.

“Yes. Can I have chocolate ice cream?” Katrina gave puppy eyes.

Twinkle began to lick his paw. He knew it wasn’t going to work, not with her in the kitchen.

                “Absolutely not.” Melfina quickly said.

Katrina looked at Melfina. She looked like her Melfina, even acted like her Melfina, but she wasn’t her Melfina. “Why are you still a bio android? And why is your name Melfina too?”

Melfina looked at Katrina in shock. How could Katrina tell she was a bio android, was it that evident? “Why would you think I’m a bio android?”

“I dunno. But you look just like my Melfina and she was a bio android too, but now she’s human, and she wouldn’t let me eat chocolate ice cream as soon as I wake up.” Katrina pouted.

Melfina didn’t quite understand, but she knew is might be confusing to Katrina too. “Well, you have to eat…”

“Something with nutritional value. I knew you were going to say that. She always says that too.” Katrina finished.

                Melfina smiled.

Katrina looked around, “Can I have what Jim’s having? Jim you there, right?”

The question caught him off guard and he began to choke. “I’m here. Are you feeling better?” Jim asked staring at her. She warmed up pretty quickly to people she was so scared of just yesterday.

“Yes, and so is Twinkle. He says it’s not your fault and you should think of good things so that monster doesn’t take you away.” Katrina smiled brightly.

How did she know that? “Twinkle?”

“Yeah, he’s eating your food as we speak.” Katrina giggled.

He felt better, and began to laugh too.

Gene smiled. He was happy she wasn’t shy around them anymore. “So, Katrina where do you want to go first?”

Katrina stared at him and frowned. “I don’t want you to take me anywhere. You’re a Doo-doo Face. I would use another term but my Mommy doesn’t like it when I use it, so Doo-doo will just have to do.”

Gene looked at her in shock. He was just cursed out by a three year old. He felt a stinging on his nose. It was Twinkle biting his nose again. Oww!! What did I do?!” Gene cried out.

Aisha began to laugh. Gene had just gotten beaten up by a little girl. The spooky thing was that she called him Doo-doo Face a.k.a. Shit-Face, but she was cute. “Katrina that wasn’t nice. You should apologize. I don’t think your parents would want you calling people names.” Aisha smiled after finish laughing about it.

                “But…do I gotta?” Katrina smiled.

“Katrina Angela Doron, apologize to Gene right now, or else you will never see one piece of chocolate ever again.” Melfina said. This seemed too natural to her.

She used the full name, she was in trouble, and this Melfina also threatened to take away all the chocolate!! Katrina pouted, “I’m sorry you’re a Doo-doo face Gene.”

Without thinking, Gene accepted her apology, “Its okay.”

“Good.” Melfina smiled as she turned around and prepared Katrina’s lunch.

Catching himself, “Hey!” Gene said staring at her.

                Katrina mouthed, “Sucker.”

Twinkle bit Gene’s finger before jumping into Katrina’s arms. This was going to be quite an adventure. It was better than playing in the trees pretending Rock was the enemy.

They were now heading for a planet called Pandora. He had never heard of it, but Katrina begged Melfina to go. How could he say no? It had been a couple of days. Katrina estimated a total of seven days to get there. She was really a super smart kid. She knew a lot about anything. Gene watched Katrina do her gymnastics. She had dodged him ever chance she got, and Twinkle had attacked him every chance he got. He got the feeling they didn’t like him very much.

“Katrina, can you help me with something?” Melfina asked.

                “Okay.”

“I was wondering why your Melfina was created.” Melfina said. Maybe this girl can provide her with the answers she was looking for.

“Well, my Melfina was created to help me with my research and to be my friend. That’s really it.” Katrina smiled.

“Wow, that’s interesting.” Melfina smiled. She felt a lot better. Suzuka had told her somehow Katrina might be from the Galactic Leyline. The Leyline was like a huge library, and Katrina did say ‘her’ Melfina was a librarian. But how could she be from the Leyline? It didn’t make any sense.

“Are you going to make chocolate cookies?” Katrina asked giving the puppy dog look.

“Sure, why not. Want to help?”

“Yes!” Katrina said running to the kitchen with Twinkle not far behind her.

Melfina smiled. Maybe she was the second ‘Melfina’, and Gwen Khan didn’t translate what was in the black box correctly. She would ask Katrina about the black box later. Melfina noticed Gene hiding in a corner. “Gene?”

He was caught. Embarrassed, Gene walked out from his hiding spot with a goofy grin on his face. “I didn’t think you would see me.”

“You’re a big child, spying on Katrina like that!” Melfina lectured.

“I wasn’t spying. I was hiding from Twinkle. That kitten keeps attacking me.” Gene complained. Changing the subject, “Did you find the answers you were looking for, Melfina?”

“I might have. But how is it possible? How could she be from the Galactic Leyline? That planet was unlivable and she would be older.” Melfina said.

Weird things had happen. They always seemed to, and frequently. “I’m just glad you’re happy. Katrina makes you happy because she’s someone you know inside and out. When you’re happy, I’m happy.” Gene smiled.

Melfina embraced him into a hug, “Thanks Gene.” She had missed his arms; his embrace, but it was time to move on. She had fallen in love with him for the wrong reasons, and Melfina felt he fell in love with her for the wrong reasons too.

“Hey, no time for making out. We have chocolate chip cookies to make. Can we make double chocolate-chocolate chip cookies instead?” Katrina asked tugging on Melfina’s apron.

Melfina blushed and so did Gene. “Sure. Let’s go. Gene, do you want to help us?”

“Okay. I’ll be glad to.” Gene smiled looking at Katrina who pouted. He laughed.

On cue, Twinkle attacked Gene’s ear.

                Oww!!”

Katrina started to laugh. “I think he’s crying. We should get the iodine.”

Melfina inspected Gene’s ear. “I think your right. Twinkle fell in the toilet. Gene’s cut might get infected. Katrina, go get it.”

                “That stuff stings!!” Gene cried.

Katrina giggled and went to get the iodine.

Proteus couldn’t get over how similar Katrina and Kat were. He watched her as she looked around in her white hooded cloak. She looked like mini Kat. “Is anything wrong, Katrina?”

There was a lot wrong. Pandora wasn’t supposed to look like a dessert. Her parents told her it was full of life, where were all the plants and animals, the rivers and lakes, the happy people? “This isn’t the Pandora I know. Twinkle doesn’t know it either.”

What did she mean? “Tell me about the Pandora you know.” Suzuka asked. She believed that Katrina was a child of the past, and her pet was an ancient beast. When Melfina asked her about the black box Gwen Khan loved to refer to, she said her father had a black box that held wonderful things. Suzuka couldn’t help but like having Katrina around. Through Katrina she saw a different side of the person she had her eye on since the first day she had met them. Suzuka held a secret smile as she began to stare.

“Pandora is a water utopia, and everyone is happy.” Katrina said. She didn’t understand what happened.

Gene stopped a man as he passed them, “You, what happened here?”

“The goddess of the mountain has punished us. She cut off the water. And those who went to that mountain,” he said pointing at a high looking hill in the distance, “to bring the water back has never returned. They are dead, all dead.” The man looked a small figure in a white hooded cloak. “Hey, how much for that one? She’s a pretty little thing.” His hand stretched out to touch her.

Katrina hid in Gene’s cloak, nearly knocking his legs from under him.

Gene secretly smiled. “She’s not for sale. Now get out of here before I wipe the ground with you.” Gene threatened.

The man smiled, “But she’s so pure.” He kneeled in front of Gene to take a better look at Katrina.

“I’m warning you.” Gene said reaching for his caster.

A loud growl was heard behind the man, “I’m really in the mood for flesh.” a voice said.

The man turned slowly to see a winged cub. “I baby guardian beast!! I have angered the goddess!!” He ran off screaming.

Katrina removed herself from Gene’s cloak. “Thanks Twinkle. You’re growing!! When we get home we’ll throw a party.” Katrina picked up the cub and it transformed back into the small kitten and sat on her head.

Aisha looked at the small kitten. Guardian Beast? Who was this little girl? She was cute and everything, but she knew a lot for someone so young. She had said her parents taught her things, but that still didn’t explain who she was and where she came from. “Well, what planet are we going to go to next?”

“I wanna go to the mountain.” Katrina said.

Was she crazy? “Katrina, we can’t go up there. There is really no goddess up there, and suppose we get lost.” Jim said trying to talk his young companion out of it.

“Think of it as an adventure. Last one to the base of the mountain is a rotten egg.” Katrina laughed running off.

“Katrina!” Gene shouted running after her. The others soon followed.

After Thoughts: Katrina and Melfina sure did hit it off, what is their connection to each other? How does Katrina know so much?? And who does Suzuka have a special eye on?? That should be easy to figure out!!  ^_^  ~~Lynderia
