Gene smiled. Katrina had fallen asleep on his lap. She would usually fall asleep on Proteus or Melfina but tonight she stayed with him. He didn’t know why he was so happy but he was. Although, Twinkle still attacked him, this time he had bit him on his head. He wondered what was that kitten’s problem. They had been traveling for two days. Katrina said one more day should do it. He noticed her love for adventure, and began to wonder if she was the one he was supposed to protect. Gene couldn’t describe this feeling, but it was like he was linked to her. Gene fell asleep not noticing two figures had been watching him.

They had followed them for a while now, but now wasn’t the time to do their job. They wondered who the new kid was and where Kat had gone? But soon it would be time to get the job done, and there was no room for mistakes.

“Come on. You can do it!!” Katrina shouted as she sat at the top.

Jim wondered where she found the energy from. This was a game to her, one big playground. He was so sleepy. Jim was glad that  the thing  inside of him wasn’t showing itself to harm Katrina. She was what they need to get their mind off their troubles. Her happiness seemed to be contagious. “We’re coming!”

Aisha finally made it to the top. Why did they allow Katrina to drag them on this, so called, adventure? Aisha noticed high hedges, “What is that?”

                “A garden that’s a maze!” Katrina smiled.

“No you don’t. I’m staying right here. You’re a crazy kid!!” Aisha sat on the dusty ground.

Aisha, after the maze is the temple of the Water Goddess.” Katrina said staring at Aisha.

                “You’re point.”

“There’s treasure in there.” Katrina said teasingly.

Aisha suddenly stood, startling Katrina, “Let’s go!!”

“Alright! Let’s go!!” Katrina said running into the garden.

“Katrina, take your time. Getting lost in a maze is no fun.” Suzuka warned. So far, they had followed her lead.

“No we won’t. This maze is an easy one! Come on!!”

Suzuka knew she was going to say that. She began to wonder just who were Katrina’s parents? Why would her parents educate her so much? Katrina knew things Suzuka, herself didn’t know. Were they trying to protect her against something? If so, from what?

“See. Took 30minutes. It’s a new record. That’s the temple of the Water Goddess.” Katrina smiled holding Gene’s hand.

Proteus smiled. She seemed happy to be with Gene now. Maybe she got over that little accident with that thing inside Jim. Maybe she blamed Gene for it, Proteus knew he had.

Aisha sniffed the air. “You guys, something is wrong here.”

As soon as Aisha said this, they were surround by winged wolves.

Mortals, what were they thinking coming here? They didn’t belong here. “Mortals.” a blue and white wolf said. She stood in front of Aisha.

“What are they?” Jim asked. The wolves looked ready to kill them.

“Wow!!” Katrina said running towards one.

“Katrina!” Melfina shouted. What was she doing? They looked dangerous.

“You’re a Guardian Beast. My Twinkle is one too, but he isn’t mature as you.”

He was confused. Hadn’t he met this child before, and she seemed to say the same thing when they had met before a long time ago. He sniffed her and understood. “Are they your friends, Little One?” the black spotted winged wolf asked.

“Yes. Can they come with me into the temple?” Katrina asked

“Of course they can. They’re your guests.” he smiled before howling. The group of wolves disappeared.

Suzuka looked the painting on the large doors. She saw the mark Kat had on her back. It was the same dragon surrounding a star. “Katrina, can you look at this.”

                Katrina came, “Yes Suzuka.”

“Do you know what that means?” Suzuka asked pointing to the dragon surrounding a star.

Katrina’s eyes widen. “It’s…it’s…” She had one just like it. “It means power. The power to create, and the power to destroy.”

Suzuka nodded. “Is that all it means?”

Katrina nodded. “I think so.” She wasn’t sure if there was something else.  “I think I might be an archeologist when I grow up. Exploring is really cool. Let’s see what’s behind the door Suzuka.” She hoped that it might have something do something with that dragon surrounding the star.

Suzuka nodded and, with the help of Aisha, pushed the large doors open. They were met with a serene place. A lake with a crossing bridge provided a path to a large statue of a dragon surrounding a star. Behind the statue was a beautiful waterfall.

Katrina looked up in awe. It was so beautiful, and she could see the fairies dancing around happily. Her parents weren’t joking when they said the temple was beautiful, it was.

Gene and the others looked around. This place flourished with life, unlike what they had seen when they first landed on the planet. This place had so many colors in one place.

Katrina and Twinkle, in cub form, walked on the bridge. Stopping in the middle, Katrina looked up to stare at the statue. It looked as if the dragon was staring right at her. She felt frozen staring into the stone eyes of the dragon.

Suzuka looked at the small girl and the winged cub. Why were they just standing there? “Katrina?” There was no answer. Was it possible the little girl was daydreaming?

A rumbling began, shaking the earth below their feet. The statue of the dragon seemed to be gaining color. Soon the dragon was real and was moving toward Katrina.

“Katrina!!” Melfina cried. She wanted to run to Katrina but her legs would not carry her. Her feet were stuck to the ground. “Katrina!! Twinkle!! Move from there!!” There was no answer, not even a plea for help from the little girl. What was wrong with her?

Gene stared, it was the only thing he could do. It seemed as if their feet were stuck. His mind seemed to be racing. Was there such a thing as the Water Goddess? Was she going to kill them starting with Katrina first? Why chose Katrina first, why not him?

Katrina turned around. Her ice blue eyes were glazed over and were emitting power. “I guess my adventure’s over, but it was fun while it lasted!!” Katrina smiled as her ice blue eyes returned to normal-a warm ice blue.

He found his voice, “So, lets go. Lets find a new adventure.” Proteus said. He had this feeling she wasn’t going to come back with them.

Katrina shook her head. “I’m sorry Proteus, but it’s time for me to go.” With that said her body burst with energy. Twinkle was emitting a light of his own. The light was so bright no one could see anything. The light faded, and Katrina and Twinkle were gone; the bridge, too, was gone. The dragon was a statue once again.

The lake’s water was calm, flowing in natural soothing motions. Suzuka watched the water, “What are we going to do now?” It was such a simple question but it didn’t come with such a simple answer. The little girl who had come from nowhere had just disappeared, just like that.

As if answering the question, a soft but audible tune played.

Gene’s ears perked up. Images of his mother playing that tune on her flute flashed in front of him, and then the image of Kat playing it when he was on Blue Heaven.  “The Angel Song.”

The water started moving rapidly. A great light burst from the lake. A large air bubble which held something floated to the surface. It looked to be a person. The person in the bubble was glowing. The bubble disappeared leaving the person floating in a circular motion in mid-air. The person spared their arms as if they were wings. A great light erupted from their body. The light faded, and the person now had clothes, hair, boots, and gloves. The person landed on the water standing on it.

Proteus stared he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

Aisha’s mouth dropped open. It seemed so unreal.

Melfina held tears in her eyes. It was like a dream.

Jim smiled as tears formed in his eyes.

Suzuka watched, wondering what would happen next. Was that person the answer to her question?

Gene stepped forward. He had that feeling, which he couldn’t describe, again. “Kat?”

She opened her eyes hearing that name. Where was she and how did she get here? She felt well rested, and energetic.

“Kat? Is that you? It’s me, it’s Proteus.” He hoped she was alright, but how did she get here.

“Proteus?” Kat said staring at the water. What was he doing here? How did they find this place? Kat turned around, and began to stare at the statue of the dragon surrounding a star. Even though Kat didn’t know how she got here, she smiled. She was on Pandora, in the Temple of the so called Water Goddess. This was her favorite place to visit in the whole universe but how did Proteus and the others find this place and how did they get past the Guardian Beasts. Kat put on her expressionless face before turning around.

Proteus watched as Kat walked toward them. It was the same Kat. He knew she would act like that; the expressionless face gave it away, but he was happy she was back.

Suzuka looked Kat over. All her wounds were gone. Was this place magical or was there something in the water? Suzuka continued to think about the possibilities of Kat’s recovery and the connection with this place.

Kat could feel Suzuka’s stare. Why did she have to stare at her? “Undressing me with your eyes, I see.” Kat said in a monotone.

Yes, Kat was one hundred and one percent healed. “How dare you?!” Suzuka couldn’t help but smile on the inside.

“Anyway, how did you people get here?” Maybe she could figure out what had happened to her. She looked at them, they all had sad looks in their eyes. What had she said? She only asked a simple question. “Well…” Kat said in a monotone.

Proteus looked at her. Her eyes didn’t hold that coldness toward him anymore. He was happy for that, and it seemed as if she now allowed him to read her. Proteus smiled at Kat.

Somehow, she couldn’t help but smile at him. “Are you going to tell me, or what Proteus?”

“A little girl brought us here then she disappeared as quickly as she appeared.” Proteus said.

Gene looked at Kat. She didn’t seem at all different. It was as if nothing happened-as if she didn’t fight The Dark Stars to protect them, and he didn’t save her at the last possible moment. “What’s wrong with you?!” Gene shouted at Kat. He needed to and wanted to understand her. He was upset about losing Katrina. Had she really existed at all?

“What’s wrong with me?” Kat eyes held an ice glare as she looked at Gene. “Wherever I go, Captain Shit-Face with his ugly crew is right behind me. I hate ugly people. Can’t you people go someplace else? Your smell is upsetting the balance!” Kat said, her voice as thick as ice.

Gene stared coolly at her. Her eyes held nothing for him but ice. Did she hate him? “Come on, let’s go.” He said turning from her walking pass the doors.

Melfina followed silently. Kat was so unreachable. All that she had done for them didn’t make any sense. Why save people you hated and wanted to get rid of? She wondered what happened to Katrina? Katrina had said it was time to go, but go where?

Aisha muttered some words, which no one could understand but her. And to think she was worried about Kat dying. Aisha didn’t know what to think about Kat; she was a confusing person.

Suzuka looked at Kat once again before exiting. ‘When will she stop her childish games?’ Suzuka thought.

Proteus frowned. He wondered if Kat knew what they had gone through when she was injured, seeing her blood everywhere. “Kat, why do you do that? They care about you. When are you going to stop?! And when are you going to back down from a fight? Suppose you died!!” His eyes began to water.

Kat stared at him. She knew, and that’s exactly why. “Proteus.” Kat said before embracing him into a hug. “Proteus, it’s unmanly to cry.” Kat smiled into his chest.

“Not when he cries for someone worth crying for.” Proteus smiled holding her. Had she really left at all? Was she with him all that time? He wondered as he looked down at her.
