For The Soul of The Stars: Home Coming

Disclaimer: It’s a real shame that I do not own Outlaw Star and its characters. However, I do own Kat, Proteus, The Dark Stars, and all new characters introduced to make this story.

A figure in black walked down the darken corridor. She had just finished up with Jaguar. His screams and pleads for his life was so enticing. The figure giggled aloud as she entered a room. “Tai.” she called out sweetly.

“Have you finished feeding the boy Jaguar?” Tai asked not turning towards her. The Outlaw Star had arrived. He didn’t sense her anywhere. It was hoped that the Dogen would screen her out, but he knew she was too smart for that. Had she bothered to come at all? He suddenly felt an embrace as hands laid on his chest. “Desdemona, what is it that you think you’re doing?”

Desdemona removed her black hood as her blood-red eyes flashed in amusement. “Come on, you’re the smart one. What does it look like?” she smiled.

She played too much. When would she learn he would never enjoy her company. Tai stretched his hand out and grabbed a hand full of Desdemona’s raven hair. He lifted her up by her hair and held his hand around her throat. “Now, what does this look like?” he said in anger.

Desdemona began to laugh. She loved it when he played rough. She removed his blue hood to reveal haunting blue eyes and platinum blonde hair. She began to run her fingers in his hair. By all rights he was the youngest Knight, even if he was second most powerful. Desdemona began to giggle as he shook his head loose from her fingers. “Just imagine that I’m her.” she whispered seductively. She knew Tai’s secret, he was obsessed with her, obsessed in so many ways.

Tai through her into a wall. “You sicken me!” He stomped out of the room. Why did Desdemona have to choose him to mess with today? She was crazy, completely out of her mind, and had terrible mood swings. Torturing people was what she loved to do in her free time. He slowly stopped as a figure in red appeared before him. Morrigan.” He greeted the Knight of War.

“Tai. Jabal has called a meeting.” With that said, the woman of very few words, disappeared. Everything they ever wanted was right in front of them for the taking. They had fed him all the dark souls they could manage. Jaguar was the richest dark soul they had ever nurtured. He was pleased with Jaguar’s soul, and now awaited the main course. As a warrior she knew they would win, they couldn’t lose.

“You’re from the Galactic Leyline.” Aisha said. It was more of a question than a statement. How could anyone be from that dead planet below them? She just didn’t understand.

Who gave her home planet that name? Kat continued to stare at the view screen. How did Gwen Kahn get his hands on the black box? “I’m from the planet Ankaa.” Ankaa meant brightest of the boat, or the brightest planet of all other planets.

It was hard to believe. “So planet Ankaa is the Galactic Leyline?” Gene asked. He wanted to make sure he had heard right. Why did things have to come back here? It was almost as if history had repeated itself.

She supposed, Gwen Kahn and his colleagues must not have understood what was in the box of the Ancient Dragon Ruins. People had a way of naming things for themselves. Kat nodded. “We have no time for this. Jim is on the surface.” she said calmly.

Suzuka sighed. She wanted to understand things in their entirety. There was a big information gap. What role did Kat play in this entire situation? “I have one more question for you Kat.” Suzuka watched the girl. Kat didn’t even turn around to acknowledge her. “What is your connection to The Dark Stars?”

Kat knew someone would ask that question and it had to be Suzuka. Should she even answer that question? Kat didn’t know how to approach the question. She hardly knew why The Dark Stars let her live. Why didn’t they just kill her with the rest? Kat turned to Suzuka and stared with her usual expressionless face. “Let’s just say I’m a survivor of a murderous rampage.”

“What the hell kind of answer it that?!” Aisha shouted. She, too, wanted to know what was Kat’s connection to The Dark Stars.

“It’s the one I have given you. We should make a slow descend toward the planet’s atmosphere.” Kat said turning around. She noticed Proteus was staring at her, so she smiled.

Proteus smiled. He was a little bit reassured, but he knew when Kat was hiding something. He just wished she could be just a little bit more open. ‘Oh Kat. What am I going to do with you?’

Gene had questions of his own but he wanted to save Jim first. “Melfina, are you ready?”

“Yes.” Melfina answered. Here they were again, facing the dark atmosphere of the planet. This time she wasn’t sure she would be able to navigate the crew through the horrors of the darkness. As the ship went deeper into the mist of darkness a horrible noise was heard. It worsened with every inch. Melfina couldn’t find her way, she was lost.

Melfina, do something!” Gene shouted over the noise. His ears were bleeding. He couldn’t take much more of this.

Melfina panicked, “I can’t Gene!” She was in so much pain.

She should have known better than to let Melfina try to navigate them. It would be impossible because Melfina wasn’t the Melfina to do this. Melfina, just calm down.” Kat said unaffected by the horrible sound. “I guess, I’m going to have to open the path for you.” Within this protective mist she would be able to use her powers without The Dark Stars sensing it, she hoped.

The noise had stopped, and all was silent. Proteus watched Kat as she watched the view screen. There was nothing but darkness in front of them. Suddenly, there was a light. His eyes focused on a cylinder flooding in the sky. It was gold and had swirls of black. It was one of the most amazing things he had ever had the chance to lay his eyes on. “Kat, is that the planet’s surface?”

Kat smiled, “No, it’s just the docking bay.” The Outlaw Star was pulled by an invisible force, and docked.

“The air is breathable, and gravity is normal.” Gilliam said. The crew had made it to this place again and hopefully they would all make it back alive.

He passed his hand through his blonde locks. The Guardian had come to save the boy. It was very noble of Gene Starwind indeed. The figure began to wonder if Gene had finally figured out who exactly he was supposed to protect. It was so hilarious.  The figure calmed himself and began to think about The Dark Stars. He had made a pact with them a very long time ago, and they all were after the same thing, destruction of all creation. The time of death was drawing nearer. He waved his hand. The five shadowy figures left the room.

Gene wasn’t going anywhere until he knew the whole situation. “Well, Kat, now that we’re here, why don’t you enlighten me as to what is really going on?” Gene folded his arms as he stared at the younger girl who didn’t turn around to face him.

“What is it that you want? Why is it that you have returned to this place?” Kat asked staring at the ground, still not facing him.

It was the same question that she had asked him when they were at Blue Heaven. “I came here to save Jim. I want Jim back!!” Gene shouted. He didn’t have time for her games. Why couldn’t she just answer his questions? Why did Kat have to answer a question with a question?

“Then I promise I will return Jim safely to you.” Kat said in a monotonic voice. She continued to walk staring at every step she took. ‘Each step is my destiny which will lead me to my fate.’

She would never get use to the teleportation. Suzuka stared at Kat as she looked at the orange sky. “What now, Kat?” She had uneasy feeling; it was turning her stomach.

“Thou hath returned.” came a voice. It was the female voice they had heard the last time they had come to this place.

“It’s that voice again.” Aisha said stating the obvious. She just wanted to get Jim back. Jim was her top priority.

“Updating your data files now. It is eleven years old.” the voice said.

A column of light descended on Kat engulfing her form. Kat smiled as she felt her skin tingle.

“Files have been updated. Welcome home Katrina.”

Gene’s eyes opened wider than they were before. Had he heard right? “Is it true Kat? Are you that little girl?” It would be hard to believe if it were true. Kat was cold and detached, while Katrina was open and friendly, after she got over her shyness.

Kat stared off into the distance. The land was ridged and crystallized, nothing like it was when she was still a little girl. Now that she was a young adult so many things had changed. Kat ignored Gene’s question. She wasn’t sure if she still was that same little girl. “Are you picking up any other body signatures besides our own, Riona?” Kat asked addressing the voice that now had a name.

“There are six others located at home, in the Main Hall.” Riona answered.

There was no denying that Kat or Katrina was from this planet, but why hadn’t she answered Gene’s question. She wanted to push the issue but felt that she should leave it alone. Aisha began to think that there was something more to all of this than anyone of them suspected. “How are we going to get to the Main Hall?” It was best just to concentrate on one thing at a time-saving Jim.

“Kat.” Proteus said. What was it that she didn’t want to face? What was she so afraid of? “Kat, please answer me.” His voice was almost pleading with her. It wasn’t hard to believe that Kat and Katrina could be the same person. The more he thought about it, the more it made sense. Maybe it was just him who saw Katrina in Kat.

Kat turned to him with a smile on her face. “Proteus, don’t worry. You really worry too much.” Kat turned back around leaving a satisfied Proteus, but the smile she held fell. She didn’t want to be here. She didn’t want to face whatever was to come from all of this. “Take us there, Riona. Take me home.”

“WAIT!!” The voice sounded like Melfina’s.

Gene turned towards Melfina, who looked confused. It wasn’t her who had spoken.

“WAIT!! Don’t go!! Don’t go Katrina!!” A figure appeared before Kat.

Melfina eyes grew wide. It wasn’t just a dream. She was real. Melfina watched as a mirror image of herself, but in blue clothing with blue wings, appeared before Kat. Melfina.”

The young woman in blue looked at the one who addressed her with sad, angry, and confused eyes. “Why did you bring her here?! Why come back?!!”

Melfina was confused. “I didn’t…” It was hard to see apart of herself that she had thought she lost accuse her of something she had no knowledge of. She still didn’t understand how a little loving girl like Katrina could turn out like Kat. She wished she could remember more about who Katrina was, like her parents, the ones who had created her.

“Leave! Leave now!!” the girl in blue shouted desperately. She didn’t have that much time left. It was amazing her spirit lasted as long as it did. She would keep Katrina safe, just as she had tried to do a long time ago.

“It’s okay Melfina. I wanted to come here. I came here to save a friend, and to finally….” Kat began.

“You mustn’t!! Just leave this planet!!” Melfina in blue shouted as the tears fell. The memory of what happened eleven years ago was still fresh in her mind. They hurt so much.

“It’s time.” Kat finally said after a long moment of silence.

“Would some one tell me what’s going on!!!” Gene shouted in frustration. What was going on? Why were there two Melfina’s, and was Kat really Katrina? “Just tell me right now!”

She herself also wanted to know. Kat, Katrina, which ever. They both held so many secrets. Suzuka couldn’t help but have a feel a cloud of dread hover over her head. Who was Kat, really? And if Kat and Katrina were really one in the same, how could a sweet child grow up to be such an unfeeling young adult, unless that child was still there but just hiding. And if that was so, what was she hiding from? So many questions were tearing at Suzuka’s mind as she watched the person they knew as Kat and the Melfina who had just suddenly appeared. What had they really gotten themselves into?

The Melfina in blue stared into Kat’s eyes as Kat stared into hers. “It is time then.” she said walking up to Kat. Melfina, in blue, whispered into Kat’s ear, “Beware of the Darkness of the Light, Katrina.” Melfina disappeared with a sad smile on her face. She just hoped that Katrina would stay safe.

A light descended upon the group of six. “Destination: Home” Riona said. A battle was about to begin.

End

After Thoughts: Is everyone on the same page? Anyone confused? Here are some facts for those who are: Kat is from the Galactic Leyline, it is also known as the Planet Ankaa (just for this story). Kat is also Katrina, the little girl who we meet in the interludes. Melfina had two sides to her, one who knew nothing of the Galactic Leyline and the other who knew everything. In my story, the one who knew everything is a spirit of the Melfina who might have been created before Gwen Khan created the Melfina that Gene saw in the briefcase. I hope this helps, but if you have any questions and/or comments I would love to hear them. ~~ Lynderia
