Our league began as the Mansfield and Columbus Franchise
Football League back in the summer of 1995. QB Steve Young holds
the distinction of being the first player chosen in our inaugural draft
that year. The Rooks won their first five games and then held on
to win the Boz that year, edging out the Sea Birds by a mere half-game.
Highlights from 1995:
-
RB Emmitt Smith (Idiots), the #2 pick in the draft, scored
43 points in Week 1 and never looked back. He finished the season
as the top RB with 271 points and was a runaway winner in the MVP race
with a rating of 176.0.
-
The high score for the year was 108 points, set twice.
The Rooks set that mark in Week 5, thanks to Marshall Faulk (35) and Carl
Pickens (28). The Dunces equaled that mark in Week 16, led by Chris
Warren (34) and Brett Favre (28).
-
Jerry Rice (Mud Hens) was the top WR with 201 points, scoring
19 in the final game to put him over the 200 point mark.
-
The Top QB was Brett Favre (Dunces) with 249 points.
He was also runner-up in the MVP race, with a rating of 117.1.
-
RB Curtis Martin (Israelites), a 21st round pick, was the
3rd ranked RB with 154 points.
-
WR Isaac Bruce (Mud Hens), a 20th round pick, was the 5th
ranked receiver with 145 points.
Lowlights from 1995:
-
#1 overall pick Steve Young only appeared in 6 games for
the Rebels in 1995.
-
QB Drew Bledsoe, the Zeppelins #1 pick, scored a mere 25
points in 10 games. He was traded away to the Israelites after the
season.
-
After 4 weeks, the War Mongers had a total of (-5) from the
QB position. Gus Frerotte had 7 points in Week 5 to put them back
on the plus side.
-
The Zeppelins had the low score for the year, posting 13
in Week 1. They went on to lose their first 7 in a row en route to
their last place finish.
-
The Rebels Top 5 picks only scored 200 points for the entire
season. They were (in order): Steve Young (76), Bam Morris (40), Andre
Rison (29), Gary Brown (5) & Darney Scott (50).
