Skid Marks win, again
Back to back championships.  Words that have never been uttered in the MACCFL before.

Until now.

After an 8-0 start, it looked like the Skid Marks were unbeatable.  They were winning easily, averaging well over 80 points a game.  Their only close game in the first half of the season was a 62-59 win over the Zeppelins in week three.

Then the unthinkable, a 47-44 loss to the Fisters in week nine.  The Skid Marks took out their frustration on the Woody's the following week: a 83-52 victory.  But the spell was broken, and the Skid Marks went on a three game losing streak.  Though never out of first place, they did allow the Dunces, Zeppelins and Sea Birds back into the running.

The Sea Birds would lose three of their final four to fall out of the running.

But the Zeppelins and Dunces kept winning.

In a week fifteen showdown with the Zeppelins, the Skid Marks had a chance to put them away.  Clinton Portis, one week after his record setting 65 point performance, traded touchdowns with Priest Holmes and kept the Zeppelins in it.  In the end the Zeppelins won 65-51 to pull into a first place tie, with the Dunces only one half game behind.

After all three teams won in week sixteen, it all came down to the final week.

The Zeppelins, with injuries to stars Clinton Portis and Terrell Owens, couldn't put anything together.  They lost to the Bootleggers 54-17 to fall out the running.  The Dunces rolled to victory over the Vipers 69-52.  It was their fourth straight victory and it put all the pressure on the Skid Marks to win.

After a close first half in their game against the Rebels, the Skid Marks broke it wide open when Ahman Green scored on a 98 yard touchdown run.  The Skid Marks went on to an easy 85-35 victory, and their second consecutive MACCFL championship.

Priest Holmes and Ahman Green were the keys to the Skid Marks repeat.  They finished first and second in the MVP running.  Holmes scored 81 points down the crucial stretch of the last four games, while Green added 71 more.

“This was a win for the ages.  Our backs have been against the wall all year.” Said Skidmark Owner Scott Hazen.  “The Zeppelins appeared unstoppable, and when they faded, even slightly, the Dunces were right there.”

“The party might not end tonight”, Said GM and Player Personnel director Jerry Kramer.  “Kalamazoo will rock the night away.”

Priest Holmes repeats as MVP, leading the Skid Marks
to a repeat as champions.
