The Republic of Macedonia will be hosting the Fourth World Reunion
of the Macedonian Refugee Children (Detsa Begaltsi) from Aegean
Macedonia in Skopje from July 18th to
20th,
2008, sacrifices of the Greek genocide
- Why has Europe closed its
eyes on the genocide of the Macedonians in Greece and Bulgaria? The
truth needs to come out. We don’t need an amateur and primitive
“political analysis” of this problem we need professional, expert and
skilled political analysts.
- Europe is indebted and
needs to apologize to the Macedonian people for the genocide it
supported when it signed the 1913 Treaty of Bucharest, a genocide which
is still carried out in Bulgaria and Greece to this day.
- It is a well known fact
that Europe and the United Nations conduct political double standards:
Greece and Bulgaria, members of NATO and the European Union, are allowed
to break all human rights laws and international human rights
conventions. Let’s no longer be naïve: everything is done to support the
political decisions which are designed to satisfy the interests of the
European Great Powers.
- To all these most delicate
questions around the existence of the Macedonian state and nation we
will work hard to bring you the answers in future editions of the
“Canadian-Macedonian News”

Vera Belazelkoska receives
peace and justice scholarship
Vera Belazelkoska, 20,
Mississauga,
Ontario, has received a 2007
Vincent L. Hawkinson Foundation scholarship in recognition of her
involvement in peace and justice activities. She is currently a student
at St.
Olaf College
in Northfield, Minnesota, majoring in economics and
political science. She is the daughter of Katerina and Ljubenco
Belazelkoska of Mississauga.At
St. Olaf, she is a coordinator of the college’s peace and justice group
and is active in the student government association and in the student
Amnesty International chapter. She has helped coordinate and participate
in student service trips to Thailand,
Washington D.C.,
and New Orleans.
She will spend the spring semester in a study program in
Namibia
sponsored by the Center for Global Education.
“This
scholarship will aide me in funding the study abroad semester that would
otherwise be unaffordable for me. My father has been unemployed ever
since we moved here from Macedonia because of his inability to obtain a
work visa, yet my parents have managed to provide opportunities for me
and my sister that will lead us to better and brighter futures. They
risked so much, abandoned the familiar and dear, and started a new life
in order to ensure our safety and brighter futures,” Belazelkoska said.
“I believe I am destined to invest my emotion, passion and ambition in
making a change in this world.”Selected annually by the Foundation, the
Hawkinson scholarships are aimed at furthering the commitment to peace
and justice of the late Rev. Vincent L. Hawkinson, who served as pastor
of Grace
University
Lutheran
Church
in Minneapolis
for 30 years.
The Hawkinson Foundation was founded in 1988 to honor Rev. Hawkinson,
who died in 2001 at age 86. Since then, the scholarship program has
awarded more than $65,000 to 60 students. Belazelkoska is one of seven
students receiving the 2007 scholarship awards, designated for students
from or attending schools in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and
North and South Dakota.
