There was also a Sega Genesis Conference in which we had head-to-head play, but that was eventually moved into the SNES modem play. The 2001 Season was the first NHL'94 internet league. The pre-season team owners included many people, including a couple of Europeans (Finlan) Jarkko aka (SWOS), who would later start yearly NHL'94 updates, and Kim. High pings led to our European friends withdrawing, and at the pre-season peak there were close to 20 league members. The league soon became a revolving door, and the schedule was rewritten many times to accomodate members leaving. Once rom hacking became popular, many people lost interest. In April 2002, the league was dead, and was canceled officialy in June 2002. Many of the games played were deleted when teams folded. Mike Z win the 2001(-2002)Stanley Cup with a 7-3 record. Although the league might have been on ice, many people began hacking NHL'94. Tony coached the pitiful NY Isles, and Jeff the pitiful Whalers. Jeff chose Hartford over Calgary, hoping to win a title with Quebec this season. Tony used the talented Vancouver Canucks. Vancouver had a late season surge, to pass Quebec for the Presidents Trophy. Hartford had a similar surge to avoid last place. The first five games were nail biters. Vancouver held a 3-1 series lead, and Quebec fought a tough game 5 to make it 3-2 Vancouver. Vancouver led Quebec 2-1 late in game 6, and scored a couple of late goals to ice it, and take the 2004 Stanley Cup. Evan and NHL94.com co-hosted the league with Classic Genesis Sports this year. Jeff's declining health led to his retirement from NHL'94 following the 2005 season. From 2005 and into the future, nhl94.com is the new home for the NHL'94 League.
