Pitt Survives a scare - submitted by Mike(pitt80)
Pitt ‘80 v Mich ‘85
Pitt 80 jumps out to an early 14-0 lead before Mich scores three straight to take the lead at 22-14. An ensuing TD and 2 pt conversion by Pitt ties the game at 22 in the middle of the 2nd quarter. Michigan scores a TD late in the 2nd Quarter to make it 29-22. Pitt answers from 55 yards out as time expires in the first half to tie the game at 29-29. Mich receives the ball to start the second half, but gets stuffed on the 4th down fake punt attempt. Pitt converts a FG to go up 32-29. On the next series Pitt blocks a Michigan punt, giving them the lead, 39-29. After trading scores, conversions, and field goals, Pitt has a 49-42 lead late in the 4th quarter. A quick Michigan score following a failed 4th down conversion by Pitt closes the gap to 49-48 with 3 minutes to go. Pitt blocks the PAT, forcing the onside kick from Michigan, which is recovered by Pitt. Pitt, with the ball at it’s own 44 with just over 2 minutes to go, runs some time off of the clock. With about 40 seconds and facing a 3rd and long, Pitt thr ows an ill advised pass that is intercepted by Michigan at their own 30. With some crafty passing and a few pass interferences, Michigan is at Pitt’s 10 with 25 seconds to play in the game, down by 1. Pitt intercepts the 2nd down pass into the endzone for a touchback and runs the final 10 seconds off of the clock to steal the win from Michigan, 49-48. A real nail biter for both owners down to the very end.
