Halloween
By Curtis Richards

Well, like it says above, the first book, or novelization, was written by Curtis Richards. It was apparently based on one of the first draft screenplays, because some scenes are different. But it was published by Bantam Books in October 1979, a year after the movie was released. It includes a whole prologue explaining how the evil begun, it does go back to ancient times but it doesn't involve any of that "Thorn" stuff and ancient runes. It's about this boy who kills a girl and her husband because he wants the girl but her husband (or boyfriend, whichever) makes fun of him. So it basically has to do with jealousy, and that can be seen when Mike kills his sister after he sees her and her boyfriend together. The book ends with the scene from Part 2, when Loomis goes out to the front lawn and sees he's not there, but this time Laurie goes with him. The book doesn't contain any of the TV cut scenes, which were added for it's TV showing on NBC in '81 if you didn't know, but it does have the first chapter which is the night before he commits the murders, and the chapter after he kills his sister which talks about Loomis meeting him and talking (!) with him. It explains how he manages to keep Mike locked up for the next fifteen years, and it even mentions "Judge Walter Ward", who is mentioned in the TV cut. Also, Dr. Loomis talks to his wife on the telephone while on his way to Haddonfield. Besides that is is a basic retelling of the film. The book also has two different covers. I own both of them.

Halloween II
By Jack Martin

Jack Martin takes over the job of writing for Curtis Richards, but he doesn't measure up to Richards' great adaptation of one of the best movies of all time. It's from Zebra Movie Tie-Ins and it was publishes the year the movie came out, which was 1981. But this book doesn't explain or have anything extra, its just a re-telling of the movie in book form. The first chapter picks up from Loomis's POV of the neighborhood after the kids come to the Myers house and he scares them off. He then goes to the house and the scene we see in Halloween II happens. That's the only thing extra, though. In the end, one of the paramedics says the bodies in there are burned to hell or something like that. It says one survived, but the other is toast. This is a mistake in continuity cuz no matter who they were talking about, both Mike and Loomis still lived for Parts 4, 5, and 6!

Halloween III - Season of the Witch
By Jack Martin

Yes, Jack Martin also wrote the novel of Part III. It's thicker than Parts I and II by about 100 pages. The cover looks like the video cover.  It was published by Zove Books and it was written in 1983.  The novel has many different scenes from the film.

The back of the book states:

Do you know where your kids are tonight?

The streets are quiet.  Dead quiet as the shadows lengthen and night falls.  It's Halloween.  Bloodchilling screams pierce the air.  Grinning skulls and grotesque shapes lurk in the gathering darkness.  IT's Halloween.  The streets are filling with small cloaked figures.  They're just kids, right?  The doorbell rings and your flesh creeps.  But it's all in fun, isn't it?

No.  This Halloween is different

It's the last one.

Halloween IV
By Nicholas Garbowsky

This is the book of Part IV which has an odd cover of Mike just standing there. The mask looks like the Part II mask (it is). The book is still just a re-telling of the movie only in book form, except some people's lines are different. For example, Kelly is nicer; she doesn't curse at Wade when he approaches her, she just says "Nice try, Wade." Like the rest of the books, this one is out of print. It was written in 1988, the copyright says Nicholas Randers, but it was written by Nicholas Garbowsky. It was published by Guild Press. The movie says, read the Critics' Choice paperback, so it might have had two publishers.
