Synopsis
The anime is based on a four panel comic strip purblished in Dengenki Daioh. Basically, it's a story that revolves around six girls going through a typical highschool life in Japan. During the three years of this anime, it shows the development of the girls' friendship, the highlights of their amusing personalities, and the funny events that occurs. The six wonderful girls has incredibly contrasting personalities that differs from a normal absent-minded airhead to a cool althetic school girl or a 10-year-old child prodigy. Azumanga Daioh tells a very memorable and hilarious story.

Story/Plot: 7
To be honest, Azumanga Daioh has no plot or storyline at all. No adventure, no goal, no nothing. Just 26 episodes of straight comedy and laughing. But why do I love it? It's because this is one of the few anime out there that actually allows someone to relax and just watch it. The main point of this story is to show the course of the three high school years in Japan, and how these girls cope with it. Each episode introduces a new event or idea filled with humor, and you just can't get bored of it! Some ideas of very abstract and silly, but that's the thing that makes Azumanga unique from other anime. You either hate this series or you love it to death, like me!

Characters: 10
The characters are the key to the entire anime. There is a huge variety of personalities between the six main girls, and I'm sure everyone can associate with at least one of them. Each and every one of them has their own attractive characteristic that makes them lovable to everyone. Crazy, cool, quiet, energetic, perverted, idiotic, airheaded, shy, paranoid, intelligent, charismatic...I haven't seen another anime with so many likeable characters! The character designs are very realistic too, not too abstract and perfect for the setting of the anime.

Art: 8
Very beautiful and consistant animation throughout the entire series. The graphics are high quality and the characters are drawn very cute and beautifully. The artwork are drawn in traditional big-eyes anime style, but the simplicity is also the key that makes azumanga so lovable!

Music: 8
One word: CUTE!! Everything about azumanga is cuteness, which the music does a very good job to bring out the cuteness. The OSTs is very relaxing and simple, and i especially loved that one recorder solo in the background. The opening song "Soramimi Cake" is probably the weirdest and most original song EVER! It's all amusing and light-hearted music, lovely to listen to!
