"This sound is driving me insane"
--Morning, Lennon

Just got back from seeing Daniel Ash and Lennon. The original concert journal entry is also updated to reflect this.

This is the second time that I've seen Lennon - the first was opening for the Cult and Monster Magnet in New York. That makes her the first band that I've ever seen twice. She rocks hardcore, no two ways about it. She sings, plays guitar and synth, and is irredeemably hot. Oh my fucking god is she hot. Oh, the hotness. Erm, right. So she's talented and attractive as well. It's hardrock headbanging stuff, with the occasional emotional piano solo. Odd. But really good. After the entire show was over, I went and got her CD, and the free t-shirt that went with it. She was working the merch table, so I told her that I had seen her in NY and that she rocked hardcore. She got all surprised looking, and was like, "Oh wow, that's cool. Thanks." I was happy. I didn't ask her to sign anything - she's cool, but I like to keep people as people.

Almost an hour after Lennon, they finally get Daniel Ash on. The drummer for the tour is Servo, from 16volt, and due to a car accident putting Patina in the hospital, Mike Peoples (also of 16volt) was the bassist. I wore my 16volt t-shirt for that very reason, yelling things like "Mike Peoples ownz!" and "We love you Servo!" and "Play some 16volt!". Considering my placement, the only person who could have seen/heard was Daniel Ash, and he just doesn't care. He didn't even introduce them. He seemed very caught up in being Daniel Ash. A few things about him:

Daniel Ash was built by a Nobel Lighting Prize winner, and designed specifically to be sillhouetted by a strobe light. Daniel Ash enjoys being Daniel Ash. Daniel Ash cares not for backing musicians. Daniel Ash completely ignores annoying blonde bitches charging him for kisses. Daniel Ash wishes he were Peter Murphy. Daniel Ash can't sing, but he plays guitar like it was his job.

Waita sec - it is his job.

But he sang anyways. And the reverb on his voice during a few of the songs was damaging. The music was louder, but he apparently found a frequency that does nothing but bounce around the inside of the ear and break things. Being in front of the speakers was not fun thanks to that. Ah well. All in all, it was not as good as I had hoped, which is why I got the Lennon CD instead. Very very dancey stuff, so dancey that I at least had to weave. Spooky is a great song. Spooky would approve.
