You walk down the hall, wondering vaguely where you are. Adanuk may be a small weyr, but it's built like a maze. You decide, finally, to ask someone for directions. There doesn't seem to be anyone around and you decide to turn around and retrace your steps, until you find something familiar. You hear, faintly, the sound of music coming from one of the rooms. The door has a new plaque on it, making you think it must either be a new inhabitant or a new rider. You stop to read the plaque. 'J'kar' is written in small, clear letters. You decide to knock. The music stops and a youth answers your knock. He is short and thin with charcoal-coloured hair and black eyes. The smile on his face brightens up the corridor. A blue firelizard is perched on his shoulder.
"Hello," he says in a soft voice. "My name's J'kar. This is Zanari." The firelizard chirps, greeting you.
You smile back and introduce yourself. "J'kar, that's an honorific, isn't it?"
He smiles proudly, "It is. Would you like to meet Millith?"
You nod, he's very enthusiastic. He opens the door further to let you in. On his bed is a small bronze, curled up and asleep.
The boy smiles and walks over to his hatchling. "Oh, Millith, you're so lazy. We have company." The hatchling raises it's head and looks at you curiously.
You walk over to the two and sit down on the bed beside J'kar. "May I?" You ask.
J'kar nods and you pet the little bronze hatchling. Millith lays his head down on your knee and creels.
"A bronze isn't bad." You comment, smiling.
J'kar beams. "I know. My father was so proud. Even my brother was surprised. He rides a brown." The excited youth explains.
You congratulate him again, and remember why you stopped here. "Do you, uh...," you're slightly embarrassed, "know the way out?" You realize how stupid that sounds and blush slightly.
J'kar smiles. "Adanuk gets confusing sometimes. I'm going to give Millith a bath, I'll take you to the weyrbowl." You nod and follow the bronze dragon, blue firelizard, and content youth out the door.
