8.1 & 8.2  Multiplication Properties, Negative, and Zero Exponents

Goal: To use multiplication properties, negative and zero exponents.

We learned a little about exponents in section 1.3. 

For the expression "a⁴", "a" is the base, "4" is the exponent, "a⁴" is a power and is read "a to the fourth power".
