MAGÜI SERNA
NEWS

31st of March, 2003: Well, the main draws both of Sarasota (USA) and Casablanca (MAR) are out and Magüi is not in any of them, so that means a week of rest for Magüi! Next week will be either Estoril (POR) or FCC (USA), Magüi appears in the commitments of Estoril, so I am guessing that's where she'll be playing! have a good week everyone!

24th of March, 2003: Magüi and Caroline Vis lost to Navratilova/Kuznetsova 5-7 3-6. Long live Martina. She'll outlast all of us, I swear . Anyway, here are a couple of pictures of Magüi with some kids at the Nasdaq-100. I think she's playing Casablanca next week, at least she is listed as No.1 seed on the website. Good luck!

24th of MAR

20th of March, 2003: Unfortunately, Magüi lost 4-6 4-6 to Asagoe on the first round. She's still in the doubles competition. She's playing with Caroline Vis this week, and they face none other than Martina Navratilova and Kuznetsova in the first round. Hopefully, it'll be a fun match for Magüi!

19th of March, 2003: Hello everyone, Magüi plays Miami [Nasdaq-100] (USA) this week, she wasn't very lucky with the draw (click here to see the draw), she will face Asagoe in the first round, but if she gets through she'll be facing Venus Williams in the second round. The dubs draw is not yet out, but when it is, it will be available in the above link. Good luck!

19th of MAR

11th of March, 2003: Well, it couldn't be. Amélie Mauresmo stopped Magüi again (last time was at the Gaz de France), defeating her 6-2 6-3. Apparently this match was on Eurosport, so I hope some of you guys got to see it. In any case a good week for Magüi, who showed she belongs much higher up in the rankings! (I think she moves up from No.47 to No.42 in the rankings next week, but not sure, I am not that great at calculating ranking points! ). Next week on the tour is the Nasdaq-100 Open (USA) [Miami] - another big american tourney. Let's hope Magüi can do well there!

9th of March, 2003: Hi guys! Sorry for the lack of updates, Magüi is playing Indian Wells (USA) this week and she's doing mighty fine! she's already in the 4th round after defeating Loit 6-4 6-3 in the first round, Fernandez [24] 3-6 6-4 6-1 in the second and Widjaja 7-5 6-2 in the third, and she now faces Mauresmo in the 4th round. Good luck Magüi! In the doubles she played with Marta Marrero, but they lost in the first round to Schett and Wartusch, you can check the draws here.

26th of February, 2003: Magüi didn't have good luck in Acapulco and lost in the first round to qualifier Alena Vaskova, but at least she's still in the dubs competition. Fabiola and her defeated Gagliardi/Harkleroad in a three setter 6-3 2-6 6-2 but lost to Loit/Svensson in the QF.

25th of February, 2003: The draw is already out! Magüi is seeded 5th and will play someone from the qualifying round in the first round. In the doubles, Magüi plays with Fabiola Zuloaga this week and they face Gagliardi/Harkleroad in the first round. Good luck!

22nd of February, 2003: Magüi plays Acapulco (Mexico) this week! That website is a pain to load, and I am not sure how good the info will be on it anyway, the draws are not out yet on the official website but you can check them as they became available here: check the draw .

12th of February, 2003: Unfortunately, Magüi lost today against Roesch 7-6 1-6 1-6, but she's still in the doubles competition, since her and Kristie defeated Beygelzimer/Rodionova in the first round yesterday 6-2 6-4 but lost to Clijsters/Sugiyama in the quarterfinals, it was a very tough match to win against such a great team. Next up for Magüi is Acapulco (Mexico) let's hope she has some good result there!

11th of February, 2003: Magüi will face Roesch (GER) in the first round of the Proximus Diamond Games (Belgium) - she is playing again with Kristie in the doubles and they face Beygelzimer/Rodionova in the first round (that'll happen today), you can check how the draws go on the wta website or try and follow live scores in the official tournament website. BTW, I have just updated the Fed Cup section with the results from 2001 and 2002 (such mixed memories, but in any case worth adding up!).

6th of February, 2003: Magüi lost 7-6 6-4 to Amélie, but she played a good match and had her chances, her first serve let her a bit down, not managing to hit it in when it counted (less than 50% first serves in), but she gave Amélie a ride for her money and she's looking very fit, so let's hope she keeps in this line and gets some good results! She's still in the doubles competition and will play with Kristie in the SF tomorrow. Next week Magüi is playing the Proximus Diamond Games (Belgium) and she plays Angelika Roesch (GER) in the first round, good luck Magüi!!!

6th of February, 2003: Amélie def. Ai and will be the next rival for Magüi. Good luck tomorrow! In the doubles competition, Magüi and Kristie won their QF match against Pratt/Daniilidou 6-2 6-2 and are now in the SF where they will face the winners of the match between Foretz/Razzano and Cohen-Aloro/Bartoli.

6th of FEB

5th of February, 2003: Magüi is in the QF in Paris! she defeated Cohen-Aloro (FRA) 7-6 6-7 6-3. After serving for the match at 7-6 5-4 in the second set, Magüi had a small hiccup and ended up losing the second set in the tie-break, but came back strongly in the third and took it 6-3 to earn a place in the QF, where she will face the winner of the match between Amélie Mauresmo (FRA) and Ai Sugiyama (JAP). In doubles, Magüi and Kristie Boogert won in the dubs yesterday 7-5 6-0 and now face Daniilidou/Pratt in the QF, a much tougher match, but let's hope they can win!

5th of FEB

4th of February, 2003: Magüi started really well today at the Gaz de France (Paris, Indoors), with a 6-3 7-6 win over Bedanova in the first round, a tough match, but Magüi did it!! Congrats Magüi! Next on is COHEN-ALORO (FRA) who defeated Anna Pistolesi in the first round, good luck!!. She's playing the doubles with Boogert (NED), they haven't been very lucky lately, but surely a good result will come soon, they face Gubacsi/Perebiynis in the first round. You can follow the draws here.

17th of January, 2003: Well, unfortunately Magüi lost in the second round to Clarisa 3-6 4-6. And she also lost in the doubles 1R to Matezvic and Nagyova 4-6 3-6. I am not sure which is Magüi's next tournament, but I am guessing it'll probably be the Gaz de France (Paris, Indoors). I'll let you all know when I know for sure. Here a picture of Magüi during her second round match at the Australian Open.

17th of JAN

14th of January, 2003: Good start down under! Magüi defeated Svensson (SWE) in a tough three setter 6-4 3-6 7-5 in the first round and now faces the argentinian Clarisa Fernández in the second round. In doubles, Magüi starts her challenge tonight, playing with Kristie Boogert against Matezvic/Nagyova, theirs is the 2nd match on court 10, for anyone in Oz go scream for Magüi!

9th of January, 2003: Magüi lost in the QF of Camberra against the No.2 seed Meghann Shaughnessy (USA) 7-6 6-4, still a positive start of the year taking out Koulikovskaya 6-2 7-6 in the first round and Anca Barna 7-6 7-5 in the second. Hopefully, Magüi will do well at the Australian Open that starts next week. In the doubles competition, Magüi and Vivi lost in the first round at Camberra, but as I said not a bad start of the year. The singles draw and the doubles draw for the Australian Open will be available on January 10th and January 14th respectively. So let's cross our fingers for a good draw!

5th of January, 2003: Magüi is playing Camberra this week, and she faces Eugenia KOULIKOVSKAYA (RUS) in the first round, you can check how the draw advances here. In the doubles competition, Magüi is playing with Vivi Ruano, with whom she won her only doubles titles, and they are seeded No.1 so this could be a great chance for Magüi to do well here! Best of luck!

1st of January, 2003: Happy new year everyone! here's Magüi's ranking point composition at 31/12/2002, so you can all know how many points and when she will be defending them:
