I am not sure if Magüi will play the doubles with Patty, but, they are supposed to play together a few tourneys... we will see.

22nd of January, 2001: Magüi and Kimberly lost in three sets against one of the best pairs in the tour: Suarez/Ruano-Pascual. The AO is over for Magüi, now she will move to Europe to compete in two indoor tournaments: Paris and Nice. Best of luck in them!!
20th of January, 2001: It will be Paola Suarez and Virginia Ruano-Pascual in the third round (doubles). This is a very good team, and somehow, I don't see Magüi and Kimberly winning, but let's hope they can play at their best level and get away with a victory!
In other news, it seems Magüi will be going to Paris and Nice after the Australian Open. With Magüi's record indoors it's surely going to be a challenge for her, but the more she plays indoors, the better she'll end up doing, I am sure.
19th of January, 2001: Magüi and Kimberly won their match 6-7(1) 6-2 6-4 and are now in the third round were they will play the winner of the match Suarez/Ruano vs Henin/Dominikovic. Best of luck girls!!
18th of January, 2001: Magüi and Kimberly Po won their doubles match quite easily, and now face Hiraki and Noorlander in the next round, which will be played tomorrow Friday, 19th of January - for the ones going to the AO it's the second match in court 7 (don't we wish we could be there, huh?)
17th of January, 2001: Magüi lost in the singles to Emilie Loit of France in the third set. Magüi made 52 unforced errors, which could explain what happened in this match, but anyway, best of luck for the doubles! Unfortunately, Conchita (who was defending SF points from last year) is also now out. On the good news, Nuria Llagostera, Virginia Ruano and Marta Marrero have made it into the third round.
15th of January, 2001: The Australian Open is here! And Magüi is already in the second round in singles! where she will face Emilie Loit of France. Best of luck to Magüi!
8th of January, 2001: Magüi lost to Kruger 64 76(4). And won't play again until the Australian Open, starting next week. Let's hope she can get a good draw and advance a few rounds!
7th of January, 2001: Magüi is ranked No. 35 in the singles (up 2 spots) and No. 55 (up 7 spots) in the doubles this week. She plays in Camberra this week (only in the singles). Here's the draw:
Pierce (1)/bye
Ellwood-WC/Grahame-WC
Kruger/Serna
qualifier/Talaja (8)
Testud (4)/Kandarr
qualifier/Montolio
Sugiyama/Asagoe
Carlsson/Schnyder (6)

qualifier/qualifier
Bye/Dementieva (2)
Magüi has played vs. J Kruger once, and Kruger won, but that was back in 1997, at Berlin, and Kruger defeated Magüi 64 61. Let's hope it's paybacks time for Magüi!

4th of January, 2001: Magüi and Patty won their match vs. the russian girls by the skin of their teeth! 7-6(4) 5-7 7-6(7)! but they did and now they are in the SF, where they face Casoni/Husarova. Best of luck for them!!

3rd of January, 2001: Magüi lost in her singles match vs. Silvia Farina 6-4 6-2, she played well until the 4-4 in the first set, then it was all about Silvia, who kept coming to the net and mixing shots really well, while not even Magüi's serve was working. Anyway, best of luck for the doubles. Here's a pic of Magüi yesterday at Gold Coast:
2nd of January, 2001: Magüi and Patty Schnyder won their match vs. Pato and Barbara Rittner 6-4 7-6(4). Magüi plays tomorrow in the first match of the day vs Silvia Farina, also Maria Angeles Montolío, who defeated Rita Kuti Kis (of the great name , in the first round, will play Silvja Talaja in the second round (Silvja Talaja is the defending champion of this tournament). In other news, Conchita, who is seeded No. 1 in this tourney, defeated Giulia Casoni and is already in the QF.
1st of January, 2001: Well FINALLY! Magúi won her match against Alina Jidkova 64 62! a gooooood start of the year! let's hope she can win a few more matches and go strongly into the AO! Now, she faces Silvia Farina Elia (ITA) in the second round, they have played each other once and Silvia defeated Magüi 6-3 6-2 (1st Round Leipzig 2000) - but let's hope this time Magüi wins!
1st of January, 2001: Happy New Year to everybody! The new season is just starting! Magüi plays at Gold Coast this week. She is the No.5 seed and will play Alina JIDKOVA (RUS) in the first round. They have never played each other before, but I am hoping Magüi can start the year with a victory! In Gold Coast, Conchita starts as seed No.1 and Maria Angeles will be playing too. Good luck to all the spanish girls!
In another news, Magüi will play the doubles with Patty Schnyder. I don't think they have ever played together before, but it should be interesting. Unfortunatelly, they play against Pato in the first round, who is one of my all time favs too. So I am remaining neutral about this match!
